Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic proactive individual to join our Postgraduate and Undergraduate Education team to deliver clinical skills training to undergraduate learners as a Band 6 UG Education Senior Clinical Skills Trainer.

The UG Education Senior Clinical Skills Trainer within the Christie Institute for Cancer Education delivers and provides specific effective clinical skills training and support to medical and non-medical staff and student groups.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who will develop the current service, focusing on maintaining and developing standards and upholding trust protocols and guidelines in relation to clinical skills training.

The successful candidate will work closely as part of the Clinical Skills Training Team in supporting Departmental Managers, Clinical Practice Facilitators, clinical staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Also, the successful candidate will need to support Senior Clinical Skills Trainers with the supervision of medical devices training processes.

Main duties of the job

1. Plan and deliver clinical skills training to agreed standards, procedures and policies to a range of pre-registration medical and non-medical students working through their high-risk clinical skills programme. This may be to small groups and or on a 1:1 basis.

2. Evaluate and adapt delivery of training dependent upon assessment of current level of knowledge, skills and experience of the learner.

3. Work alongside pre-registration students in practice supporting them with their high risk clinical skills.

4. Assess the practical clinical skills competencies of pre-registration students to established competency assessment frameworks. Feedback areas of concern to senior colleagues and/or departmental managers.

5. In collaboration with senior members of the team participate in developing and reviewing training materials, presentations and input/comment on policy updates.

6. Maintain and develop own knowledge, skills and competence in relation to clinical practice and clinical skills training.

7.Contribute to the implementation of new clinical skills training initiatives, ensuring practice is evidence based and adheres to trust standards and policies.

8.Participate in evaluating clinical skills training provision and identifying skills gaps to ensure continued improvements, quality and standardisation of training.

9. Provide pastoral support for learners and escalate to manager and HEI where necessary

3. Coordinate, facilitate and deliver formal clinical skills training days e.g. book rooms, speakers.

4. Supervise and monitor in collaboration with the Preceptorship Lead the preceptorship and medical devices training processes in designated clinical areas.

5. Adapt delivery of training dependent upon assessment of current level of knowledge, skills and experience of the learner.

6. Devise, develop and review training materials, presentations and policies under the direction of the Clinical Skills Training Manager.

3. Lead collating and maintaining training and development records in designated learning environments.

4. Be accountable to the Undergraduate Education Manager to identify, devise, develop and implement new clinical skills training initiatives and educational pathways, ensuring practice is evidence based and adheres to trust standards and policies.

5. With team establish competency standards to ensure the agreed standard of care is maintained.

6. Supervise the professional work of preceptees and learners requiring training in designated areas reporting any concerns to clinical managers and PG & UG Education.

7. Advise and support staff and learners in relation to clinical skills training. Direct and supervise key supervisors and assessors to facilitate nursing learners to learn and develop and assess their competency.
