Job summary

The job is a full-time post without on-call with an effective start date of February 2026. The job plan will include theatre, outpatient and cystoscopy sessions and participation in MDTs. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in clinical research and in the surgical educational activities at the Christie.We are looking for a candidate with good general surgical experience with core skills in Urology, along with 4 years of full-time post-graduate training, at least 2 of which in a specialty training programme. The candidate should be someone who has evidence of teaching activity over the last 12 months and a desire to be involved in teaching. With previous senior fellow level experience.This post is for 40hours per week assisting in delivery of a high-quality tertiary referral urological cancer service including:o Prostate cancer diagnostics and surgical management (robotic)o Testis cancer (retroperitoneal surgery)o Soft tissue sarcoma (robotic/open surgery)o Penile cancer and andrology (penile prosthesis)o Renal and Adrenal cancer (robotic/open surgery)o "Late Effects" service- surgical management of the complications of cancer, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, including Genito-Urinary reconstructive surgeryo Core urologyo Research

Main duties of the job

This post will provide an excellent opportunity for senior trainees and clinicians to gain experience in a large comprehensive cancer centre. The duties will revolve around support for the North-West penile cancer, complex retroperitoneal and pelvic cancer teams. In addition the post holder will assist our tertiary referral service for prostate diagnostics. The post holder will support the Consultant Urological Surgeons, work alongside other junior doctors and liaise closely with senior medical colleagues. The remainder of the appointee's professional time will be deployed on other clinical duties, administration, and teaching. The candidate will be expected to participate in research with a view to completing a national/international presentation +/- publication during the post.The role will be responsible for:o Rotating to Diagnostics Clinicso Be a part of the Team for level II/III Urological Cancer Surgeryo Must Participate in Researcho Pre-operative preparation and post-operative care for patientso Active participation in regular audit, SMDT and Research meetings

The successful candidate will join a team of Uro-Oncological surgeons and work in the largest cancer hospital in the UK.The department consists of two inpatient wards (38 beds), an Oncology Critical Care Unit, 5 operating theatres, and the Integrated Procedures Unit.
