This is a CPOC fellowship in Advanced Colorectal Cancer & Peritoneal Surface Malignancy.
This surgical oncology fellowship aims to provide an opportunity to develop consultant-level decision-making & gain significant hands-on experience in the management of advanced rectal cancer (TME, beyond TME, and recurrent cancer) advanced colorectal cancer, appendix tumours & anal cancer. We are also a centre for neuroendocrine tumours, retroperitoneal sarcoma & advanced pelvic malignancies (gynaecological and urological). CPOC hosts six registrars/ fellows with equal opportunities to engage with the unit's activities with an expectation for the fellow to be first assistant/supervised surgeon in 50-70 complex & major cases during their fellowship year. The appointees will gain significant experience in cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIPEC), multivisceral resections, laparoscopic & robotic surgery.
CPOC fellows will also be involved in CPOC research activities & in the unit's surgical education activities. This will include faculty membership on The Christie Advanced Pelvic Malignancy Cadaveric Workshop &The Christie FRCS Part 2 course. Fellows will also have the opportunity to be mentored on the ESSO/PSOGI European School of Peritoneal Surface Oncology Training Programme.
Main duties of the job
This fellowship is in colorectal, pelvic, and peritoneal tumour management. The successful candidate will gain experience in the management of primary and advanced colorectal cancer, recurrent colorectal cancer, anal cancer, pelvic oncology, and appendix tumours. This will place the successful candidate in an ideal position to pursue a consultant career in cancer surgery. These fellowship posts are designed for senior trainees who are within 12-months of or post CCT.Fellowship Objectiveso Developing the knowledge and skills to perform and prepare for independent practice in the management of colorectal cancer and peritoneal disease.o Developing leadership skillso Working collaboratively with other specialtieso Discussion of cases at MDT.o Inpatient managemento Delivery of surgical educationo An on-call commitment (Level 1b, EWTD compliant).o Undertaking a research projecto Preparation of abstracts and papers for presentation and publicationo Teaching and educational activities.o Involvement with endoscopy lists.
