Job summary

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit enthusiastic, self-motivated and compassionate people to work on our hospital bank.

This is an opportunity for graduate nurses who are yet to secure substantive employment as a Registered Nurse. Successful candidates will be assigned to work across a maximum of 2 areas where you will be assigned a preceptor and supported through a 4 week supernumerary period.

Joining the bank provides an excellent opportunity for those who wish to gain insight and experience into diverse areas and specialities while providing you with the flexibility to choose your own working hours with weekly payments available. It can also provide the opportunity to gain experience with the trust as a precursor to permanent employment.

Main duties of the job

To provide care for patients who are admitted to the unit and their carers within a recognised framework in accordance with NMC Code of Professional Conduct, Christie NHS Trust policies and Health & Safety legislation.

Job responsibilities

Professional

1. Take individual responsibility for the nursing care of a group of patients as a registered nurse2. Provide a supportive role on the ward for nursing, medical and clerical Staff3. Undertake the nursing care of patients, ensuring privacy & dignity is maintained whilst being aware of physical and psychological needs4. To give a clear and accurate update at change of duties and ensure accurate documentation of nursing interventions5. To participate in the emergency care of patients and give any necessary instructions, including transfer information6. Participate in nursing procedures appropriate to the department7. Support and assist in the induction/training of junior staff/Health Care Assistants acting as mentor to designated staff8. To welcome patients to the ward and its routine9. To liaise with medical and para medical personnel and community organisations10. To highlight areas of improvement/development within the department and undertake relevant projects11. To act as support for other ward nurses in relation to care of the surgical patient

12. Safely escort patients to other areas and collect blood products from key departments13. Assist in the provision of meals / refreshments for patients whilst meeting their nutritional needs14. Assist in the general housekeeping duties of the ward15. Help to maintain a safe environment and report faults/risks etc to the nurse in charge16. Liaise with staff member responsible for stores/stationery and ordering and assist in the maintenance of stock levels17. Handles patients personal possessions, ensure cash and valuables kept securely as per policy18. Correct care and custody of controlled drugs and aid the safe storage of medicines19. Assist medical staff with procedures20. Carry out certain procedures such as cannulation and 12 lead ECGs and be prepared to learn new skills

EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1. The staff nurse is responsible for their own personal development and maintaining a personal development plan2. To complete the Ward introductory pack and preceptor pack3. Complete Principles and Practice of Intravenous Skills Programme and Cannulation Skills Training and update annually4. Annually attend all mandatory study days as per Trust and unit guidance

PERSONAL

1. Demonstrate a pleasant and approachable manner and help create and promote a good working relationship2. Show professional and courteous manner when answering the telephone and other enquires3. Maintain confidentiality with regard to patient information both at work and outside of working hours

4. To be aware of and adhere to all policies including; sickness and absence, confidentiality, uniform and responsibilities under the Health and Safety at work act and be familiar with all risk assessments pertinent to the MAU5. Report and record all accidents and complaints according to the agreed policy6. To be aware of limitations and utilise the preceptor system for any issues that arise7. To show respect for members of the team and endorse the ward philosophy of giving mutual support
