As Deputy CT Lead you will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of our CT service. Collaborating closely with the CT Lead you will oversee a team of talented radiographers, ensuring the provision of high-quality care across 3 CT scanners.

Your expertise will contribute directly to the development of tailored treatment plans for patients, helping to optimise their outcomes and overall experience.

As part of your role as CT Deputy Lead you will be provided with training to extend your scope of practice by working alongside Clinical Specialists to develop your skills in CT protocol management, advanced scanning applications, dose management and image optimisation.

Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES

Assist the CT Lead in the day-to-day management of the CT department, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation and compassion.

Provide leadership and guidance to a team of radiographers, promoting their professional growth and development.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment planning.

Drive the implementation of new technologies and techniques, staying at the forefront of advancements in CT radiography.

Participate in departmental audits, research projects and quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.

REQUIREMENTS

Degree in Diagnostic Radiography

Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Extensive experience as a radiographer with a strong background in CT imaging.

Proven leadership abilities with the capacity to inspire and motivate a diverse team.

Excellent communication skills, fostering effective collaboration across departments.

Strong problem-solving skills, capable of making critical decisions in a fast paced environment.

Commitment to continuous professional development and staying up to date with industry advancements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication requirements

  • To support the CT Lead in the delivery of the clinical service, ensuring the smooth running of the department.
  • To assist in ensuring there is effective communication between the various teams who have input into the CT Scanning service such as Radiology Staff, X-Ray Therapy Staff, Medical Physics Staff, Clinicians, Nursing staff and others.
  • To ensure that patients understand complex information related to their scan and to encourage patients to cooperate fully in the scan process. This may involve patients with learning difficulties or other disabilities.
  • To assist in developing good communications with all disciplines of staff both internally and external to the Department. This involves advising other Trusts on oncological CT scanning procedures when required, demonstrating the operation of the scanners to interested parties both inside and outside the Trust.
  • To take part in departmental research and audit and report as necessary.
  • Accurate input of patient data into any Trust computer system.

Teaching / Training requirements

  • To ensure all Radiographers are fully trained in the CT scanning protocols and procedures and in the use of other equipment.
  • Maintain expertise in intravenous cannulation techniques.
  • To ensure all Radiographers are trained and certified in Intravenous cannulation and give update lectures when required.
  • To arrange mandatory training non medical staff in the Division of Radiology.
  • To participate in the departmental continuing professional development programme, including participating in personal development reviews and personal development planning.
  • To participate in the Trusts mandatory training.
  • To adhere to the College of Radiographers Professional Code of Conduct.

Analytical skills

  • Assess patients clinical condition with relation to the level of risk of giving intravenous contrast medium for scan protocols.
  • Adapt CT techniques and protocols in accordance with the condition of the patient.

General duties

  • To participate in the clinical service working to agreed protocols, and to take part in the regular protocol review meetings with the Radiologists in order to maintain a high operational standard.
  • Supervision of junior radiographic staff and radiographic aides as required.
  • Assist in the planning and organisation of training agendas in order to ensure staff are fully trained in the safe operation of the equipment.
  • Ordering of equipment and consumable items.
  • Organisation and booking of appointments and preparation of patients as appropriate.
  • Provision of specialist care of patients to ensure their comfort and safety in the department.
  • Checking patient details prior to examination and ensuring all relevant details are on the request card as per the IR(ME)R regulations. Ensuring pregnancy is excluded in patients of childbearing years.
  • Ensuring that any faults in equipment, fixtures, fittings or fabric of any of the Radiology departments are recorded and notified to the appropriate persons, and complying with, and enforcing current Health and Safety and Moving and Handling regulations.
  • Ensure that all relevant radiation protection measures for each department are adhered to, e.g. local rules, ionising radiation regulations, IR(ME)R, departmental dose reduction strategies, MR safety etc
  • Maintaining practices in keeping with departmental and Trust Board policies, e.g. fire regulations, patient confidentiality etc.
  • To work with Radiologists, Clinical Service Lead and other Senior staff in the department to review working practices, identify new ways of working and find solutions to problems.
  • Willingness to work out of hours in emergency situations as required.
