As a Senior Radiographer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of our Radiographer led service.

You will attend University to undertake the upper GI reporting course over an 18-month period. You will be supported by the Upper GI Reporting Radiographer lead to learn and be able to provide quality imaging and reports for patient diagnosis and treatment.

You will be undertaking a period of preceptorship once the University course is complete. As part of the training, you will be working with multiple disciplinary teams such as speech and language therapists and GI consultants.

As part of this role - you will also join the rotational radiographer team. This includes rotation to 3 areas of Radiology. Interventional Radiology, CT and Plain Film. Here you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will also be required to participate in the out of hours service and extended day.

Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES

  • Undertake upper GI fluoroscopic techniques and report the imaging produced for timely diagnosis for patient treatment and outcomes.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of radiographers, promoting their development and wider upper GI pathology knowledge.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support accurate and timely diagnosis and treatment planning

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Diagnostic Radiography
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Strong background in Interventional imaging with minimum 2 years' experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, fostering effective collaboration across departments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, capable of making critical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying up to date with current fluoroscopic techniques and reporting criteria.

  • To use specialist knowledge to perform examinations, interpret images and produce a final formal report on fluoroscopy examinations in line with current departmental practice, to include both written and verbal communication of results.
  • To be accessible for discussion/advice on image interpretation and reports.
  • To assist in ensuring there is effective communication between the various teams who have input into the radiology services such as radiology staff, medical physics staff, clinicians and nursing staff.
  • To ensure that patients understand relevant information related to their examination and to encourage patients to cooperate fully in the examination process. This may involve patients with learning difficulties or other disabilities, and/or very distressed due to their illness.
  • To participate in multidisciplinary, interesting clinical cases and discrepancy meetings relating to clinical reporting of examinations.
  • To regularly undertake audit and communicate audit findings for upper GI fluoroscopy reporting.
  • To participate in departmental research.
  • Accurate input of patient data into any Trust computer system.

Teaching / Training requirements

  • To maintain and continue to develop highly specialist knowledge and expertise required for clinical upper GI fluoroscopy reporting.
  • To take an active role in the teaching and training of qualified radiographers and radiography/other students.

  • Adapt radiographic techniques and protocols in accordance with the condition of the patient.

General duties

  • Supervision of junior radiographic staff and radiographic aides as required.
  • To inform the Clinical Specialist Radiographer/ IPU radiology nurse of equipment and consumable items that requires ordering.
  • Provision of specialist care of patients to ensure their comfort and safety in the department.
  • Checking patient details prior to examination and ensuring all relevant details are on the request card as per the IR(ME)R regulations. Ensuring pregnancy is excluded in female patients of childbearing years.
  • Maintenance of the standards of imaging set by the department.
  • Ensuring that any faults in equipment, fixtures, fittings or fabric of any of the departments are recorded and notified to the appropriate persons, and complying with, and enforcing current Health and Safety and Moving and Handling regulations.
  • Ensure that all relevant radiation protection measures for each department are adhered to, e.g., local rules, ionising radiation regulations, IR(ME)R, departmental dose reduction strategies etc
  • Maintaining practices in keeping with departmental and Trust Board policies, e.g., fire regulations, patient confidentiality etc.
  • To work with the Radiologists, Clinical Specialist Radiographers and other senior staff in the department to review working practices and identify new ways of working and find solutions to problems.
  • There is a contractual requirement to participate in extended day and weekend working, and on-call.
