The Integrated Procedures Unit (IPU) has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, organised and experienced nurse to join our core nursing team as a Band 6 Deputy Ward Manager.
You will lead a dynamic nurse-led service and gain experience in all aspects of Unit Management. This role is for 37.5 hours per week, worked over 4 days. IPU is open 07:30-19:30 Monday to Friday, so this is a great opportunity to achieve an excellent work-life balance whilst acquiring new skills to support your professional development.
Main duties of the job
- Provide daily leadership to the core nursing team in the care and management of patients on the unit undergoing a diverse range of surgical, endoscopic and radiological procedures.
- Demonstrate high standards of individual patient care with a commitment to the development of evidence-based practice.
- Competently care for the patient including the assessment, planning and evaluation of programs of care.
- Liaise and integrate with the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring patients receive comprehensive care and promote a team approach to working.
- Develop good working relationships and promote effective communication between all clinical grades of staff within the multi-disciplinary IPU team.
- Liaise with the IPU teams to initiate and participate in the audit and evaluation of clinical practice and surgical products in the interest of promoting quality care.
- Work with senior colleagues to formulate practice development strategies based on audit findings.
- Encourage and participate in initiatives to enhance quality care, including audit.
- The post holder will be proactive towards change and change management.
- Promote and maintain an environment conducive to professional development.
- Take responsibility for your own professional development.
- Participate in the theoretical and practical professional instruction of all learners, trained and untrained, including medical students and other allied medical professions.
About us
The Integrated Procedures Unit (IPU) is a nurse-led, fast-paced and dynamic service. The unit consists of a procedures unit, interventional radiology unit, endoscopy unit, ultrasound room, surgical dressings clinic, outpatients clinic, day of surgery admissions unit, an operating theatre and second stage recovery bays.
