Job summary
This role will have overall responsibility for the management of the Radiotherapy and proton departments at The Christie NHS foundation trust. The post holder will provide a highly visible and authoritative presence ensuring the needs of patients are placed at the centre of care. The post holder is accountable for the effective management of all resources needed to deliver a comprehensive radiotherapy and Proton units including achieving performance targets and longer-term service developments.
The post holder will have well developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals and teams. Being intellectually flexible, with the ability to look beyond existing structures and ways of working to produce a more effective and innovative service delivery. Having sound political judgement and astuteness in understanding and working with complex policy, and diverse interest groups is a necessary quality for the successful applicant.
Main duties of the job
- Responsible for proposing & implementing service/departmental policies/ responsible for policy implementation and service development.

- To have overall responsibility for the radiotherapy and Proton budget, liaising closely with the Finance Manager and Trust Commissioning body. Ensure the optimum use of resources by establishing and maintaining an effective management process to ensure financial control.
- Overarching signatory for all three departments and the mould room.
- Procures capital equipment.
- To implement cost saving strategies in order to meet business planning agreements. Working alongside the Finance Manager and Divisional Director to identify cost pressures and ensure that these are actioned appropriately.
- To be responsible for ensuring that pay budgets are not overspent and that systems are in place to monitor bank and agency bookings.
- To identify and present recommendations to the Divisional Director for investment programmes where necessary, taking the lead on developing effective business cases for the department.
- Liaise with Greater Manchester cancer network and commissioners to ensure that all new treatments are managed accurately, and that Primary Care Teams are aware of the new developments of radiotherapy delivery techniques.
