Job summary

This role is for a Band 7 Sepsis Specialist Nurse - 12months maternity cover.

It is a Trust wide role which will require you to act as the clinical expert and provide clinical leadership, education and training to all clinical areas so to improve the outcomes for patients with suspected and confirmed sepsis.

This will be done through the implementation of regular clinical study days and direct clinical support.

You will be working as an autonomous practitioner which is integrated into the wider infection control team and patient safety teams. With a focused approach on improving Patient safety and striving to achieve both local and national targets. You will be expected to be able to report the overall sepsis compliance to relevant committees by monitoring and analysing sepsis data and identify trends for service improvement escalation.

You will need to have high level of experience in oncology and acute care nursing with a have sound clinical knowledge and have a passion to ensure best practice is adhered to. You must be able to demonstrate managerial and leadership abilities and feel confident to act as an advocate for both patients and staff when required.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as a clinical expert in sepsis, providing guidance and support to nursing and medical staff across the Trust.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate sepsis protocols and guidelines to ensure best practices are followed.
  • Conduct educational sessions, workshops, and training programs to enhance staff knowledge and awareness of sepsis management.
  • Lead and participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives related to sepsis care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient pathways and improve clinical outcomes.
  • Provide direct patient care and support in complex cases, ensuring timely identification and management of sepsis.
  • Monitor and analyse sepsis data to identify trends and inform service improvement strategies.
  • Actively participate in Infection Control and Patient Safety initiatives, aligning sepsis management with broader Trust goals
