Job summary

This is a rare opportunity to work with the internationally acclaimed Maguire Communication Skills Training Unit (MCSTU) at The Christie School of Oncology. To cover for maternity leave (12 Months)

We are looking for a highly experienced and committed communication skills trainer to deliver our suite courses. You will be enthusiastic, creative and keen to offer flexible and innovative modes of delivery to meet the needs of health and social care professionals in an ever-changing, pressurised environment.

The successful candidate will already be delivering Advanced Communication Skills Training workshops and will either be an approved CONNECTED facilitator or able to demonstrate equivalent expertise and experience.

You will be working with our Maguire Programme lead, existing trainers and Associate free-lance trainers, education colleagues within the Trust and external organisations to develop the range and quality of our services in line with new evidence, patient and service needs, policies and legislation.

Main duties of the job

You will be involved in the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of a range of training events and services to meet the needs of MCSTU client groups both within The Christie and externally. This can be in a variety of settings, including face to face and on-line adapting learning and facilitation methods accordingly. You will work closely as part of the MCSTU team to provide expert support to workforce and HR colleagues, proactively identifying specialist training needs and opportunities for Christie staff at all levels.. You will provide specialist knowledge and advice to external commissioners and organisations - informed by national policy and recent research.

  • Analyse evaluation data, research, national policies and guidelines and theoretical developments and recommend options for developing and improving Maguire programmes, practices and services accordingly.
  • Represent the Maguire Communication Skills Training Unit at meetings and events, when required. This can include presentation to large groups and conferences to represent the strategy of the team.
  • Contribute to the development of the MCSTU profile by identifying opportunities for collaboration, publication and marketing.
  • Communicate and support members of the MCSTU team and liaise with relevant staff from the trust and network on a range of matters.
  • Contribute to improving quality and supporting equality and diversity, adapting content to meet the needs of different stakeholders. Have an informed understanding of specialist communication needs which supports local and international markets.
