Multi Skilled Maintenance Technician (Plumbing Biased)

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for multi-skilled maintenance technician with a Mechanical(plumbing) bias to join our team.

You will need to be able to demonstrate commitment, enthusiasm, professionalism, working within a fast-paced healthcare environment. We are looking for an individual with the ability and willingness to work outside of their comfort zone.

Main duties of the job

The Estates Hard FM team is looking to recruit a mechanically (plumbing biased) multi-skilled technician with a rounded working knowledge of systems such as:

  • Large heating systems covering various sources of supply i.e., plate heat exchangers, calorifiers and boilers. Heating distribution i.e., VT, CT and mechanical ventilation.
  • Domestic hot water systems
  • Mechanical ventilation plant
  • Chilled water systems
  • Cold water mains systems both boosted and mains supply.
  • Drainage and rainwater systems.
  • Water systems within a healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of WRAS and HTM's

As well as having a biased towards the above mechanical systems, the successful candidate will also be expected to undertake duties on other systems that the department is responsible for, including but not limited to:

  • Electrical distribution systems
  • Medical gas systems
  • Air conditioning systems
  • Fire detection systems
  • Building management systems

You will be responsible for the day-to-day repairs, PPM and operational testing for a wide range of building services and equipment located at the Trust.

You will be a keen team member and will have served a recognised apprenticeship to City and Guild/NVQ level 3 standard/BTEC-OHC/HNC or equivalent in domestic and commercial plumbing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To work appropriate to core skills and develop other skills in line the trusts requirements.

1. Service, test, diagnose, repair and calibrate advanced mechanical, electrical and electronic installations, plant and equipment.

a. Using technical manuals

b. Communicating with manufacturers and suppliers of equipment

c. Follow protocols when working in radiation & other controlled areas

d. Ordering spare parts and service materials

e. Plan and prioritise reported faults

2. Use and understanding of the building engineering management system.

a. Extracting data and printing fault reports

b. Using the information generated to prioritise work into critical and non-critical faults

c. Inform management of any serious problems which may affect the running of the hospital

d. Computer programming, modifying, and making additions to the system

e. Liaise and communicate with the systems managers

3. Attain competent person training in line with HTM 04

a. Preparing test certificates

b. Isolation and making safe areas within the hospital for contractors to carry out their work

4. Carry out performance testing of water and drainage systems as and when required.

5. Attend to fire calls and communicate with Fire Officers.

a. Determining the cause of the alarm, rectify and replace as required

b. Confirming with the Fire Officer the cause of the alarm, and signing his report

c. Report back to management and indicate any remedial action that may be required

d. Using a laptop computer to programme the fire control panels

6. Deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others;

7. IT Skills.

a. Recording times of attendance

b. Creating spreadsheets to record and present information

c. Send and receive information

d. Search for information using the internet

e. Generate reports

8. Service and Maintain Air handling Units including Theatre plant.

9. Attain Medical Gas competency.

10. Service and Maintain Domestic Hot Water & Cold-Water Systems including drainage and rainwater systems.

a. Monitoring & recording of temperature readings.

b. Carry out duties in line with Trust Policy on Legionella.

11. Undertake duties of craftspersons if required.

12. Assemble, install and commission new work.

13. Use all relevant tools and equipment.

14. Use and safe operation of hydraulic platforms, and roof access

a. Correct use of safety harness and equipment
