Job summary
This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week to provide care of patients with Head and Neck, Thyroid, and non-melanoma skin tumours from across Greater Manchester and Cheshire.The oncologists manage all H&N, Thyroid and Skin cancers diagnosed within the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cancer Network. The Thyroid team also take referrals from Lancashire. Systemic therapy is primarily delivered centrally. Radiotherapy is delivered at The Christie or at the satellite units in Salford, Oldham and Macclesfield.All Disease Group consultants work as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting the delivery of this work including one Nurse Clinicians, one Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP), four Clinical Nurse Specialists, Research Nurses, Clinical Fellows, Specialist Trainees, Pharmacists and Advanced Health Professionals in dietetics and Speech and Language Therapy.It is envisaged that the post-holder will have clinical commitments in Head and Neck/Thyroid oncology and non-melanoma skin tumours, being actively involved in these disease groups and the treatment of their patients. The post-holder will ideally have experience in radiotherapy to the head and neck as the skin radiotherapy part of this role will involve nodal / parotid radiotherapy planning.

The role will be responsible for:o Management of patients with Head and Neck, Thyroid and Skin cancers receiving standard therapy including treatment decisions and ongoing care.o Participating in all relevant aspects of clinical governance, including maintaining up to date protocols, guidelines and clinical audito Contributing to current research projects and establish new opportunities to expand and develop research within the team. o Revision and development of evidence-based protocols for patients and undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of their patients.o Maintaining a level of continuing professional development consistent with the recommendations of the Royal College of Radiologistso Actively contributing to the training of junior doctors and other multi-disciplinary team members in both in-patient and outpatient departments.
The postholder will be expected to see approximately 220 new patients per year.The appointee will have access to office accommodation and access to secretarial support.
