Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated, and dynamic Band 7 SRS Specialist Radiographer to join our friendly team at our satellite Radiotherapy Centre, The Christie at Salford.
At The Christie at Salford satellite centre we deliver both radical and palliative radiotherapy to approximately 80 patients a day. The department is equipped with a CT simulator and an Elekta Versa HD linac with HexaPOD robotic couch operating within an IMPAC MOSAIQ environment, offering IGRT, SGRT, IMRT, VMAT, SRS and SBRT treatments. The linac replacement programme is due to be completed in July 2024 when the department will be equipped with two Elekta Versa HD Linacs.
Excellent communication and leadership skills will be required along with the ability to be decisive, organised, approachable and hard working with the ability to work effectively and efficiently with the rest of the friendly and enthusiastic team at The Christie at Salford to provide a seamless, safe and pleasant environment for staff and patients alike. In addition, flexibility is a necessity within the small team at The Christie at Salford.
Please note, the working days for this post are fixed as Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. 15 hours per week may be considered but the working days would be Tuesday and Thursday to meet the needs of the SRS service.
Main duties of the job
The Band 7 SRS Specialist Radiographer is a key member of the Band 7 team, working to allow efficient day to day running of the SRS service. Due to the nature of working in a satellite department, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain treatment competencies at a band 7 level.

The Christie at Salford opened in 2011 and is one of three Christie satellite centres delivering Radiotherapy to patients closer to their homes.
Working hours must be flexible to fit the needs of the service and individuals will be expected to participate in all shift patterns and will be contracted to work between 6am and 11pm, however routinely the department works between the hours of 7.30am and 7pm Monday to Friday (including bank holidays). Flexible working and part-time/job shares will be considered. The individual will also be expected to part of the weekend on call rota.

Clinical
- To act as an expert resource on SRS/SABR treatments and technology
- To ensure safe and accurate delivery of treatment and verification
- To maintain a general working knowledge of standard departmental techniques and technology to the level of Band 7 Radiographer
- Be pro-active in the maintenance, improvement and development of own competence
- To review SRS/SABR patients throughout their treatment pathway and ensure consistency and continuity of care
- To support, educate and provide exceptional standards of care as an independent practitioner for SRS/SABR patients and their carers throughout their treatment pathway
- To troubleshoot patient care or technical issues related to SRS/SABR patients throughout their SRS/SABR treatment pathway
- To participate in MDT (multi-disciplinary team) meetings, in discussing appropriate patient management ensure this group of patients and carers receive accurate and current information in relation to their disease and treatment
- To work closely with the MDT to monitor the SRS/SABR service to maintain high quality service delivery and professional standards
- To liaise with other departments/Trusts involved in the SRS/SABR service, providing timely and evidence based information as appropriate
- Take a lead role in reviewing and writing work instructions and operating procedures pertaining to SRS/SABR

- To be pro-active in the development and implementation of evidence based clinical practice in line with local and national initiatives, facilitating changes in service where necessary

- To work closely with the wider Radiotherapy Band 7/8 team to monitor the work across the service in order to maintain high quality service delivery and professional standards, applying disciplinary and/or capability policies where necessary
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff through chairing of appointment panels, completion of paperwork and liaison with Human Resources and Occupational Health departments to ensure successful employment of candidates
Research and Development
- Lead, supervise and/or undertake an active role in research, audit, development, improvement and implementation of new techniques and practices pertaining to SRS/SABR within the department, assessing results and impacts
- Demonstrate knowledge of current research within SRS/SBRT
Responsibility for Resources
- To be responsible for the equipment in the work area, ensuring that fault reporting and handover procedures are followed
- Working closely with medical physics and technical services staff to ensure that repairs and routine servicing of equipment is carried out with minimal disruption to service provision
