An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Clinical Network Services Division as a trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner who will, whilst completed an academic Master's in Advanced Clinical Practice, develop the clinical skills, confidence and competence to deliver expert nursing care to Gynaecology Medical Oncology patients with advanced or relapsed disease. The Complex and Recurrent Gynaecology Oncology (CAReGO) service was developed in 2021 with the aim of streamlining and improving the clinical management and experience of patients with complex advanced gynaecological cancers, in particular, malignant bowel obstruction. The current team is led by a Medical Oncologist, and includes an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative/Supportive Care and Cancer Care Coordinator. This hybrid Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) post will work, on qualifying and a trainee with appropriate support, within the busy and dynamic CAReGO team and wider Gynaecological disease group across both the inpatient, ambulatory care, and outpatient settings.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated and driven to improve patient care and experience, and will have significant nursing experience within the medical and oncology setting.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work alongside, and under the supervision of, the CAReGO and Gynaecology Medical Oncology (GMO) Group to provide expert inpatient and outpatient care for the GMO team patients. On qualifying and as the individual progresses on the training they work on a rotational basis with our current Advanced Nurse Practitioner across the inpatient and outpatient settings.
The ACP will work closely with the other members of the multidisciplinary team, such as inpatient junior doctor teams, Medical Oncology Registrar, nutritional and dietetics, Salford Royal IFU, discharge planning, therapy and social workers, to ensure holistic, seamless care for this complex patient group. Liaison with community GPs, district nursing teams and community palliative care is an essential part of this role, to offer expert advice and support care planning, and enable patients to avoid the need for admission to the Christie and can maintain independence for as long as possible in their preferred place of care.
