Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must hold City & Guilds 7061/2 or L3/L4 NVQ
  • Essential Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate L3 / Desirable L4
  • HACCP Certification L4
  • Experience in large scale catering, kitchen, or a food service industry
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask

Availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and public holidays

Main duties of the job

What will you be doing:

  • Overall running of the Kitchen Operation.
  • Ensuring food and hygiene standards are met.
  • Planning menus and ordering supplies as required.
  • Providing day to day management and training of catering staff and dealing with direct patient queries.
  • Managing Dietary and Allergen requirements.
  • Providing a personalised service as appropriate.
  • Preparing, cooking, and serving of all foods to patients, staff and visitors.
  • Providing high quality hospitality catering for internal and external events.
  • Ensuring compliance of all Catering areas.
  • Providing excellent customer service to patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Ensuring NHS Food Standards are adhered to.

Job responsibilities

Manage, maintain and control the trusts food production service; optimising current resources to stay in the allocated catering service budgets.

Ensure compliance with all food safety legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and technical guidance.

Work to catering and food related policies and procedures, ensuring their implementation and evidence of all associated activity

Provide training with respect to food related processes including stock control and temperature software packages for equipment.

Ensure that high standards of food are prepared and served for patients, staff and visitors

Provide clear catering and food production related information and documentation to staff, patient groups, dieticians and stakeholders. Receive and interpret complex catering and food production information and documentation from all stakeholders.

Work with the Senior Catering Manager identifying and managing the risks in the catering department. Highlight any problem areas regarding provision of service, faults in the fabric or maintenance of the department or shortages of staff that will affect the service for any period.

Participate in negotiations, particularly regarding catering and food production projects and with staff.

Demonstrate communication skills regarding awareness of visits to the trust by statutory agencies, audit representatives and VIPs

Develop and maintain relationships, effective networks and proactive communication mechanisms with staff;

Present reports covering all the food production elements as and when required.

Provide training presentation packages to clinical staff attending regular training events run by the dietetic team.
