Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced operations manager to lead and manage our Haematology and TYA services across greater Manchester and Cheshire.

Based at The Christie Withington site you will have responsibility for the day-to-day management of haematology, cellular therapy and TYA services both at The Christie NHS foundation trust Withington site and haematology @ services at other sites. This includes the delivery of all inpatients, ambulatory, day case and outpatient services within the directorate.

The post holder will have a strategic role in developing services with a particular focus on haematology@services and expansion of the cellular therapy programme.

The post holder will have well developed leadership and influencing skills with extensive knowledge and understanding of Haematology and cellular therapy services and their challenges.

You will have the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals and teams to look beyond existing structures and ways of working to produce a more effective and innovative service delivery. Having sound political judgement and astuteness in understanding and working with complex policy, and diverse interest groups is a necessary quality for the successful applicant.

To be responsible for the overall management of a large team of nurses, administrators and scheduling staff as well as supporting the clinical director in the management of consultant and junior medical staff.

Main duties of the job

This post is a 12 month fixed term contract with the potential of moving to a substantive post.

The Head of Haematology and TYA services will demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge and skills in Haematology and Cell Therapy. You will be responsible for the day to day management and leadership of the Withington Haematology and TYA services and haematology Christie@ sites.

You will be expected to provide Professional and specialist clinical leadership and take the responsibility for the leadership and development of a large group of nursing, support and administration staff across all sites as well as supporting the clinical director.

You will be responsible for managing all relevant budgets, ensuring optimal use of resources, providing an efficient service across all sites. You will work closely with finance leads to agree service level agreements, negotiating new terms and providing service efficiencies and innovation.

You will be involved and expected to take the lead on service development and the expansion of Haematology Christie@ services across Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

This role requires close monitoring of activity and performance targets, taking the lead on performance improvement.

About us

The Christie Hematology service is a fast-growing service, developing its cellular therapy and Christie@ services across greater Manchester and Cheshire. There is a large team of medical and nursing staff as well as an excellent team of supportive and administration staff.

Sitting within the Network services division, the hematology department currently consists of one inpatient ward, an outpatient treatment unit, an ambulatory care unit, a teenage and young oncology unit and two Christie@ sites at Tameside and Macclesfield.

The wider division is responsible for the trust ambulatory and outpatient services as well as other peripheral and satellite services across Greater Manchester and Cheshire. We have an excellent supportive senior team who work closely together to provide the best possible care for our patients.

Additional support is provided by the divisional triumvirate of Medical Director, Divisional Director, and associate Chief Nurse. The successful postholder will be welcomed and valued within the Networked Services Division.
