Job summary

The Christie has the ambition to become a leader in real world outcomes. Our ambition is to make greater use of real world patient data collected routinely as part of standard clinical care to make incremental changes in improving cancer patient outcomes, services and experience. In the last decade, the Christie has established a framework, to collect high quality real world clinical, treatment and more recently patient reported outcomes data not only via clinical trials but for patients receiving standard care. In addition, we also benefit from an ambitious big data infrastructure and governance framework established at The Christie through the Radiotherapy Related Research Group (RRRG), in collaboration with the Christie Digital Services teams.

You will be a someone with a medical degree who is interested in the power of real world data (RWD) for improving patient care and outcomes. You will be curious about innovation with a good understanding of the use and value of AI tools in a clinical setting. You will be a champion of high quality data capture and an advocate for data driven decision making.

You will have an interest in research using RWD, be a team player, and be willing to support colleagues in the use of data for a wide range of purposes.

Main duties of the job

The fellow will have the opportunity to support ongoing audit- and research-type projects, as well as lead the set-up of new real world data projects. The priority will be given to projects that address Health Inequalities. As part of CODU, the fellow will work collaboratively with clinical colleagues, research groups (e.g., RRRG, Systemic Therapy Research group), wider Digital Services and external collaborators (in particularly the University of Manchester and the Manchester Cancer Research Centre). The fellow will work closely with the Lung cancer disease group but will also engage with the different disease-orientated cancer groups at The Christie with a focus on clinical outcomes projects using 'Real World Evidence'. This will provide an opportunity for presenting at national and international conferences, and for peer-reviewed publications.

This fellowship includes a clinical component that will complement the above-described work. The fellow will gain clinical experience by providing direct patient care through outpatient clinics, in particular lung cancer clinics, with the option of a rotating clinic in a different cancer group as per the fellow's interests.
