The Workforce Development Team within Christie Education are looking to recruit to our Band 6 Career Development Practitioner role on a 12 month Secondment opportunity basis. Over the last two years this post has grown and established itself as a highly regarded role within the Organisation, which now encompasses a range of interesting and exciting workstreams. We are looking for a proactive energetic individual to carry on this great work and develop the role even further. There is great scope to shape, build, and move this agenda forward. Main duties of the job

Internally - The role provides expert career development support and guidance to all staff across the Trust who want to reach their potential. The successful candidate will design, publish and promote career pathways information and will inter link with other colleagues within the team to compliment the Learning Needs Analysis process and provision of training from our various funding streams including the Apprenticeship Levy. The role supports the processes of placement coordination for a range of programmes, such as, Supported Internships, Observerships, T-Levels and Pre employment initiatives.Externally - The post holder will also coordinate and deliver our Widening Participation agenda within our local community in South Manchester to support the future talent pipeline into oncology and the NHS and strengthen our commitment to social mobility. There is opportunity to engage with the Greater Manchester and National networks, learning from and contributing to good practice in relation to pre-employment programmes and work experience/placement initiatives, as the Trust representative. The role is very varied, and involves delivery of a range of activities and interventions either face to face or online. This role requires someone who is visible and able to build relationships with a range of individuals and stakeholders including training providers, colleges and other support organisations.

Job responsibilities

Critically reflect on career development practice at the Christie, evaluate against relevant theories, models research and appropriate ethical standards in order to facilitate continuing professional development and ongoing service improvement

Collaborate with colleagues, internal and external stakeholders to negotiate, design, develop, organise and evaluate programmes of activities that equip learners with the skills knowledge and resources they need for their career development. Manage and coordinate these which may include Traineeships, T-Levels, Sector-based Work Academy, Kick-Start Programme and School Work Experience Programmes as well as internal Christie staff, liaising with placement supervisors.

Assess learners needs to determine most appropriate programme for the learners needs.

Research demand for programmes to inform and develop programmes that are reflective of the community we serve.

Organise pre-employment programmes for widening participation groups. This will require the post holder to be able to match job opportunities with learner competences in order to signpost them appropriately.

Develop, deliver and evaluate internal career development events for Christie staff at all levels in the organisation.

Manage and coordinate the The Christie NHS FT representation at local and regional careers events, considering time capacity committments. These may include local schools, colleges and Job Centres.

Lead on the design, planning, delivery and evaluation of career-related learning activities using pedagogical approaches appropriate to the audience, ranging from pre-employment applicants to Registered Professionals.

Liaise with Ward/Department Managers and School of Oncology Colleagues to create learning environments and experiences, devise rotational placement plan and monitor and evaluate effectiveness, producing reports as required. This may involve piloting placements in new areas, and collaboration with managers to support them through this process.

Resolve any learner issues appropriately with relevant partners being the primary point of contact within the School of Oncology for learners and managers participating in the work based programmes delivered.

Work with The Christie NHS FT departments as appropriate to promote the welfare, safety and pastoral care of learners.

Motivate and equip learners to identify their short-term and long-term career development objectives and to develop plans to make progress in those objectives.

Enable learners to assess their strengths, values, beliefs, situation and preferences and to connect them to the requirements and rewards of opportunities within Education, The Christie and the NHS.

Prepare, conduct and evaluate structured career development interactions using career counselling, guidance, coaching and advice work approaches, as appropriate.

Be responsible for the marketing and advertising of Career Conversations and related advice, in an accessible to all manner

Coordinate the Trust's Career Ambassadors register, monitor their activity and encourage more colleagues to participate be the contact liaison for those who register, and coordinate all requests for Career Ambassador reps at events.

Contribute to ensuring compliance with governance guidelines and participate in reviews as necessary. Instigate action when necessary and carry out, document and communicate any follow-up action contribute to policy.

Carry out individual learner reviews, monitor attendance/timekeeping, sickness/absence and report as required for relevant programmes.

Ensure Equality, Diversity and Inclusion are core components of Career Development at the Christie.

Implement, evaluate and modify complex data/information, in order to achieve measurable outcomes. Manage data returns to NHS England.

Monitor pre-employment learners on a regular basis, including updating records and maintaining databases.

Accurately type correspondence and reports, summaries and other documents.

General administration duties, e.g., booking training rooms, preparation of handouts, setting up training rooms, line managing with the administrator for the role.

Develop quality assurance systems to establish best practice by quality review and audit and provide present reports as required.

Attend GM networks relating to WP and feedback where appropriate- some chairing responsibilities

Manage and coordinate new groups of learners to commence on programmes - arrange ID badges, health checks, uniforms, sickness/absence monitoring and any required follow up e.g. incident/accident reporting.

Manage budgets relating to Kickstart and other funding (T-levels, observerships invoicing, income due etc)

Participate in the coordination and delivery of the education achievement recognition activities in the School of Oncology.
