Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated occupational therapist to lead our occupational therapy team. The candidate must be able demonstrate the ability to make confident decisions with strong leadership and excellent communication and management skills.

The role will include providing day to day management of the adult inpatient occupational therapy team, delivering specialist assessment and rehabilitation interventions, providing education and support to both occupational therapy students and other members of the team, and promoting the occupational therapy role on a regional and national level. We also promote skills sharing between occupational therapy and physiotherapy. You will have the opportunity to contribute, facilitate, design and lead quality improvement projects through research and audit with the aim of enhancing and promoting the value of occupational therapy in cancer care.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will lead the occupational therapy service to deliver high quality assessment and interventions to ensure a seamless transfer of care for our patients. They will be responsible for:

- Providing day to day management of the staff members of the occupational therapy adult in-patient team.

- Effectively managing clinical time versus managerial responsibilities.

- Contributing to and supporting the development of the occupational therapy service within the trust.

- To work autonomously providing specialist assessment, interventions and advice to patients in the inpatient adult service

- Participate in staff supervision and ensure the well-being of staff.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in clinical audit, research, CPD and the in-service training rota, and will be required to complete the relevant mandatory training.

CLINICAL

To use advanced personal coping strategies to work with a specialist caseload in the oncology setting. AHPs working in this environment may have exposure to breaking bad news, patients with progressive disease and this who are in the terminal stages of their illness.

To develop competencies to enable cross-working between occupational therapy and physiotherapy to ensure efficient and seamless working, whilst respecting professional boundaries.

To communicate discharge plans and occupational therapy interventions to the MDT, patients, and relatives/carers.

To be responsible for the safe use of occupational therapy equipment within the Trust by staff, patients, and relatives.
