Job summary

The role of Clinical Educator is a key component of the support provided to pre-registration students in clinical practice and staff from newly qualifies to experienced.

For learners, the post holder will be the main departmental link during clinical practice, providing a balance supervision and support while maintaining regular and varied clinical presence

The Clinical Educator will be also involved in staff training. This will be supporting staff achieve basic and advance relevant skills, emergency and mandatory local training, as well as support with the introduction and maintenance of medical devices training.

Main duties of the job

The role of Clinical Educator regarding learners will involve:

  • To support the development of student (nurses/ODPs/Apprenticeships) during their clinical practice journey. This will involve ensuring clear processes are established to support their development and progress throughout the programme.
  • Provide Student placements by organising learners: shifts/ allocations/ assessors/ supervisors Mentor/Preceptor accordingly with their learning needs during the provided office time.
  • Facilitate spokes (in and out the trust) to achieve learners' competencies
  • Support SCE while leasing with the different training providers from School of Oncology to outside educational organisations
  • Be proactive in bringing new ideas on how to increase placement capacity maintaining quality learning experience

  • To support the development of newly qualified staff through the preceptorship programmes in collaboration with trust lead

  • Support staff to develop and maintain competence in agreed basic and advanced clinical skills

  • To undertake further training as relevant to the role and service requirements such us medical devices and clinical skills to support the senior team in auditing and evaluating theatre practise
  • In conjunction with the senior leadership team undertake audit of education and clinical practice annually and implement changes when required
  • To feedback regularly and consistently to the senior leadership team
  • Deputising for SCE when required
