Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic proactive individual to join our Clinical Skills Training Team as a Clinical Skills Trainer.

The Clinical Skills Training Team within the School of Oncology delivers and provides specific effective clinical skills training and support to medical and non medical staff and student groups.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who will support the current service, focusing on maintaining and developing standards and upholding trust protocols and guidelines in relation to clinical skills training.

The successful candidate will need to work effectively as part of the Clinical Skills Training Team inmsupporting The Christie PET-CT Academy, Specialist Practice Educator (SACT), DepartmentalManagers, Clinical Practice Facilitators, clinical staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Also the successful candidate will need to support Senior Clinical Skills Trainers with the supervision of medical devices training processes.

Main duties of the job

Plan and deliver clinical skills training to agreed standards, procedures and policies to a range ofinternal and external clinical staff across professions. This may be to small groups and or on a 1:1basis.2. 2. Evaluate and adapt delivery of training dependent upon assessment of current level ofknowledge, skills and experience of the learner.3. 3. Assess the practical clinical skills competencies of individual clinical staff to establishedcompetency assessment frameworks. Feedback areas of concern to senior colleagues and/ordepartmental managers.4. 4. Coordinate, facilitate and deliver formal clinical skills training days for PET CT Academy.5. 5. In collaboration with senior members of the team participate in developing and reviewing trainingmaterials, presentations and input/comment on policy updates.6. 6. Maintain and develop own knowledge, skills and competence in relation to clinical practice and clinical skills training.7.Contribute to the implementation of new clinical skills training initiatives, ensuring practice is evidence based and adheres to trust standards and policies.8.Participate in evaluating clinical skills training provision and identifying skills gaps to ensure continued improvements, quality and standardisation of training.

PROFESSIONAL/COMMUNICATION
  1. Demonstrate a pleasant, approachable and proactive manner to create and promote a good working relationship amongst the clinical skills team, within the School of Oncology and the clinical divisions.
  2. Adhere to uniform policy to maintain a professional appearance.
  3. Work across all designated clinical areas under the direction of area Senior Clinical Skills Trainer or senior team member. Work as part of the team to deliver static training sessions, provision of trust Alertive service and cross cover during absence.
  4. Work autonomously and as part of the team, with the ability to prioritise own day to day workload and manage own time
  5. Work effectively with Senior Clinical Skills Trainers and senior team members to ensure that appropriate service cover arrangements are in place g. during sickness or annual leave and be adaptable to days worked to ensure that the overall work of the team is carried out effectively.
  6. Attend and actively participate in departmental meetings providing reports and information relating to the work of the Clinical Skills Training Team and feedback to area Senior Clinical Skills Trainer
  7. Provide clinical training advice to enable staff to provide the necessary support for patients/carers, which may involve direct clinical care involvement
  8. Be aware of own limitations and that of others, seeking advice and guidance from Senior Clinical Skills Trainer and/or senior team
  9. Act as a specialist resource/support for the Trust in relation to clinical skills training and medical devices training processes and liaise with the designated Senior Clinical Skills Trainer as appropriate
  10. Communicate effectively verbally and non-verbally with the MDT regarding clinical skills training provision/developments. Some of these interactions may be difficult in nature and should be escalated to Senior Clinical Skills Trainers as

4. In collaboration with senior members of the team participate in developing and reviewing training materials, presentations and input/comment on policy updates. 5. Maintain and develop own knowledge, skills and competence in relation to clinical practice and clinical skills training. Proactively engage in annual appraisal with line manager. 6. Assess the practical clinical skills competencies of individual clinical staff to established competency assessment frameworks. Feedback areas of concern to senior colleagues and/or departmental managers. 7. Assist in the development and implementation of action plans in relation to clinical skills training. 8. Assist Senior Clinical Skills Trainers in their designated clinical areas with the medical devices training programmes. 9. Ensure own essential training is maintained

SERVICE IMPROVEMENT AND QUALITY 1. Under the direction and guidance of the Senior Clinical Skills Trainers, participate in collating data for audits and/or from incidents/complaints relevant to the work of the Clinical Skills Training Team. 2. Collate and participate in maintaining training records. 3. Contribute to the implementation of new clinical skills training initiatives, ensuring practice is evidence based and adheres to trust standards and policies. 4. Participate in evaluating clinical skills training provision and identifying skills gaps to ensure continued improvements, quality and standardisation of training. 5. Contribute ideas for income generation in relation to clinical skills training provision to senior colleagues. 6. Take reasonable care of own health and safety and that of others as per trust policy. 7. Under the guidance of the Senior Clinical Skills Trainer, liaise with departmental managers to assist in procuring equipment and ensuring the best use of resources. 8. Report all accidents, incidents in relation to own sphere of work and/or defects in equipment as per trust policies and communicate as required with departmental managers and senior clinical skills team colleagues.

OTHER

  1. Be responsible for ensuring that personal corporate essential training requirements, as dictated by the trust, are met in a timely manner.
  2. Be responsible for booking an appointment and completing preparation work for annual PDR appraisal. Engage in the PDR process and take responsibility for drafting a summary of the discussion and objectives.
