Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the recruitment to the newly created role(s) of Screening Practitioner (SP) as part of a 23 month fixed term pilot programme, within the Cheshire Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) based at Leighton Hospital.

This post would suit a qualified patient facing staff member with current NMC/HCPC registration, who is keen to develop their knowledge and skills in a specialist Colorectal service and who has a keen interest in improving screening uptake through identifying and addressing health inequalities.

Although the programme offices are based at Leighton hospital the clinical team cover the whole of Cheshire and as such, we would welcome applications from registered healthcare professionals located in West and East Cheshire as well as those local to Leighton.

Funding is initially in place for 23 months from 1st April 2026 until 1st May 2028.

We would encourage any interested applicants to arrange to call and discuss the role and/or visit the screening team.

Anyone invited to interview will be asked to submit a short 5-minute presentation on Health Inequalities and present this on the day.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide the highest standard of care and support for patients participating in the English National BCSP.

Applicants must be a Registered Nurse (level 1) or Allied Healthcare Professional with a qualification in a patient facing profession (EG; Radiographer, Operating Department Practitioner, Paramedic or similar), with or working towards a health-related degree or with an equivalent level of experience.

They must have the ability to communicate sensitive and complex information and have good IT and team working skills.

There is the expectation that the post holder(s) will work collaboratively with the BCSP Management team and North West Screening and Immunisation Team who commission the BCSP, to identify and deliver a yearly independent health improvement project.

Post holders are also required to attend and successfully complete a 2 day course to use and access the Bowel Cancer Screening computer System (BCSS), as soon as possible after commencement in role.
