Job summary

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in the Stroke Department at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful motivated and enthusiastic candidate to join the team based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe.

This is a fixed term post until 04.08.2026.

We are looking for a Locum Consultant Stroke Physician with a specialist interest, passion, and drive to further develop and deliver the appropriate care and diagnostic service for patients presenting with Stroke, Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) and Stroke mimics.

This role comes with the opportunity for the successful applicant (should they wish) to spend two sessions to further develop interests in other areas which may include another specialty service or alternatively medical education, clinical governance and quality improvement, clinical leadership or research.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe in the Stroke Unit, Division of Medicine and Emergency Care.

The successful candidate will join the existing team of Consultants, providing Stroke and TIA services and developing a collaborative approach to care provided at Mid Cheshire Hospital, Foundation Trust (MCHFT) and the wider NHS. MCHFT works in partnership with University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) hospital as part of our Stronger Together Partnership, covering all areas of Stroke care including Stroke Prevention, Hyper-Acute Stroke Care, Post Stroke Care and Stroke Rehabilitation.

The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise. The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.
