Job summary

The post holder is an experienced and competent healthcare professional who has continuous responsibility for the leadership, education, and quality of the outpatient/dermatology team. They are responsible for achieving clinical excellence in Dermatology through effective utilisation of the team, including appropriate allocation of work, efficient use of resources, and the development and implementation of policies, guidelines, and quality improvement projects.

The post holder will work collaboratively and co-operatively with colleagues, patients, and families to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred care. They will actively contribute to the wider activities, priorities, and strategic plans of the Trust, supporting innovation, service development, and the delivery of high standards of clinical practice.

The role includes promoting a positive working environment, supporting staff wellbeing, and encouraging continuous professional development within the team. The post holder will also be expected to champion good governance, uphold statutory and regulatory requirements, and support the embedding of best practice across the service.

On occasion, the post holder may be required to support or deputise for the Matron/Main/VIN OPD Manager, as well as provide support across sites, including Victoria Infirmary, Northwich, or Waters Green in Macclesfield. Flexibility across sites and services may be required in response to operational needs.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an experienced clinical leader to support the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of our Dermatology Outpatient Services. You will oversee daily operations across general clinics, nurse-led services, phototherapy, and skin surgery, ensuring excellent patient care, safety, and experience. The role includes managing clinic capacity, patient flow, waiting lists, and staffing, while supporting key pathways such as chronic skin conditions, urgent suspected skin cancer, patch testing, and biologics monitoring.

You will ensure compliance with national guidelines, Trust policies, lone-working arrangements, and robust documentation.

Responsibilities include resolving operational issues, maintaining equipment and stock, and contributing to service development, pathway redesign, and digital improvements.

You will work closely with consultants, specialty doctors, nurses, CSWs, and administrative teams to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care.

The role also involves leading governance activity, including audits, risk management, incident reporting, and policy development. You will provide visible leadership, support workforce planning, recruitment, supervision, appraisal, and staff development. A commitment to continuous improvement, patient involvement, and fostering a positive, learning-focused culture is essential.
