Job summary

The role of the Clinical Support Worker (CSW) is to support in the delivery of high-quality patient care who actively participates in and supports the registered nurses and clinicians in the outpatient clinics.

The post holder will undertake a range of clinical care duties within the speciality clinicsassisting with minor operations as delegated by a Registered Nurse.The CSW will be assisting in aspects of patient preparation for minor surgery, chaperoning patients, assisting in eye assessments, and administering eye drops once competent. A CSW may help with personal hygiene, supporting patients to access appropriate nutrition, providing bowel and bladder care and maintaining patient privacy and dignity at all times. They must have a good understanding of IT and accessing and the movement of patient medical records paperless and paper

Main duties of the job

Toassist both the patient and clinician with service delivery and various clinical duties.

Assist patients in maintaining their personal hygiene, grooming and dressing needs with specific concern for their religious, cultural and personal preference, ensuring privacy and dignity at all times.

Prepare the clinical area for safe practice by ensuring that cleanliness is maintained, materials and equipment are ready for use, including clearing away afterwards

Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations

Care duties may include, capillary blood glucose monitoring, pregnancy testing, urinalysis, ECG's, removal of urinary catheters, Assisting in minor operations, prepping surgical trollies, ANTT, assisting in eye assessments, administering eye drops, wound management of non-complex wounds / basic dressing.

Assist patients in their mobility requirements, prepare the environment, move and position appropriately to maximise their physical comfort, utilising equipment trained to use and as directed by the multi professional team.

Undertake and document patient observations that includes temperature, automated blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, conscious level, height, weight, oxygen saturation levels and conscious levels.

To work effectively within a team and assist in maintaining a good working atmosphere.

To update the electronic DCS system.

To complete and achieve the Care Certificate within the first 3 months of employment.

Actively support and assist in alleviating distress and anxiety of patients, relatives or visitors, consistent with their personal beliefs and preferences. Seeking support from registered staff as needed.

Support patients with dementia/cognitive impairment.

Use a range of techniques for infection prevention and control including waste management, hand washing and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
