Job summary

We invite applications from dynamic and enthusiastic anaesthetists, to join our friendly and forward-thinking team based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe.

The successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital in the leafy Cheshire countryside near Crewe and Nantwich- a beautiful Cheshire market town.

The successful applicants must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise.

This is a permanent post, and it is offered on a full-time basis; however, the Anaesthetic Department would welcome discussion with individuals looking for a more flexible working pattern to support a different work life balance.

Main duties of the job

The post's emphasis for clinical work includes anaesthetic cover in theatres for a wide variety of surgical specialties including Orthopaedics and Trauma, Ear, Nose and Throat and General Surgery. This post also includes on-call cover for Emergency Theatres, Critical Care and Obstetric Anaesthesia.

The period of induction and assessment will see the post-holder in theatre, critical care and obstetrics. After the initial assessment the post-holder is contracted to provide the out-of-hours/emergency cover in accordance with the agreed rota. The rota is currently 3 separate 1:8 rotas and is equivalent to 12.0 programmed activities (including elective sessions).

The post-holder will cover lists alone or with a consultant anaesthetist. If working with a consultant, the post-holder will be supervised by, and follow the instructions of, the consultant. If working alone, the post-holder will seek the guidance of the duty consultant when clinically indicated.

Operating sessions are for 5 hours with the WHO checklist starting at 08:30 in the morning and 13:30 in the afternoon. It is expected list finish times are 12:45 into recovery for a morning session and 17:45 for an afternoon session. With pre-operative and post-operative visit each session is 5 hours. However, some flexibility of finish times is expected.
