Job summary
Applications are invited for a Consultant Anaesthetist to join a friendly, supportive, and dynamic Anaesthesia department at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital, on the outskirts of Crewe. This location benefits from a great position, surrounded by green fields and close to many charming small towns and villages. The Peak District and North Wales are within easy reach, and there are also good transport connections to Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, and London.
The Treatment Centre comprises of 4-day case theatres, 5 endoscopy rooms and a recovery area. There are 7 inpatient theatres including one 24 hour a day emergency theatre and an orthopaedic barn theatre.
The award-winning Maternity Department consists of a self-contained midwife led unit with 3 rooms with birthing pools. The delivery suite has 6 standard delivery rooms, 2 theatres and a 2 bedded recovery area.
The spacious Critical Care Unit located adjacent to the theatre suite, was opened 8 years ago and has recently been expanded to provide an integrated 18 bedded area with four potential isolation rooms and the ability to cohort into a four-bedded area separate from the main unit.
A Surgical Admission Lounge (SAL) next to theatre admits patients on the day for elective operations.
Shortlisted candidates will be expected to visit the department prior to interview.
The proposed AAC date is 28.11.2025.
Main duties of the job
The post is offered on a full time, or job share basis, the job plan being intended for a full-time appointment with an opportunity to modify this if the post is offered on any other basis.
The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise. The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training at the date of interview.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a friendly, dynamic team focused on providing high quality patient care for a diverse range of patients. Duties will include anaesthesia for elective and emergency cases including paediatrics, obstetrics, orthopaedics and general surgery.
This post will contribute to the Consultant Anaesthetist on-call rota (1 in 14 including this post), and weekend trauma lists (currently 3 weekends a year).
Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).
