Job summary

To provide a Waste Portering service in public, patient, and staff areas. To follow NHS guidance and work to the requirements of NHS Standards and Environment Agency Legislation, and to work in association with Departmental/Ward managers, Housekeepers and Supervisors in delivering a quality, patient focused service.

You will be required to work alternate weekends and shifts may vary and It is essential that you have a full UK Driving Licence with a C1 included.

Main duties of the job

To provide a service to the trust and to segregate and dispose of household, confidential, hazardous and clinical waste.

To adhere to the guideline of all main responsibilities in the job description and may also be required to drive off site to take the diesel van for a run out to clear the filter, which will be done once a week generally at the weekend and will take around 30 minutes.

Job responsibilities

  • To segregate and dispose of household, confidential, hazardous and clinical waste in accordance with Trust Policy
  • The removal and safe storage of chemicals and specialist materials
  • To ensure appropriate contractors are available at all times, to maintain quality and delivery of service.
  • To operate the Tugs in accordance with Trust procedure
  • To maintain and clean tugs and waste collection containers.
  • To maintain equipment used in course of duties.
  • To ensure that appropriate access to the waste hold/compounds is available at all times for waste contractors in order to maintain quality and delivery of service.
  • To provide ad-hoc cover for the Grounds Person
  • To provide ad-hoc cover to help maintain a Portering service in all patients, public and staff area.
  • To report any maintenance issues to the Line Manager
  • personally accountable for their actions and be responsible for their own compliance in relation to IP&C polices, protocols or advice.
  • Ensure they work in accordance with local procedures and report any issues which they consider to be a risk to the health and safety of themselves and/or others.
