Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, organised and positive individual to compliment the Women's and Children's Research Team, supporting the Research Midwives and Paediatric Nurse. The Research Administrator is an integral part of the research team with a primary responsibility to provide effective administrative support for clinical trials. The post will be permanent, 30 hrs per week at a band 4.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about research and have prior experience in a comparable setting. The post holder will lead on administrative tasks and implement and maintain effective manual and electronic filing systems. The post holder will also demonstrate excellent IT skills and have a willingness to develop new skills. Experience of using the ICS and electronic patient information systems and a working knowledge of ICH GCP & Research Ethics Process is desirable.

Main duties of the job

The main duties will include assisting with the set-up of clinical trials, maintaining site files, screening patients' notes for eligibility to clinical trials, making appointments, collecting data and other relevant administrative tasks necessary throughout the lifetime of the studies. The post holder will be responsible for liaising with Women's Health/Paediatric staff regarding current research activity within the unit.

JOB PURPOSE

The post holder will provide a comprehensive, quality, and confidential administrative support and secretarial service to the Womens and Childrens Research Team. A key requirement of the job is to organise the managerial and administrative workload of the research activities, including the maintenance and security of staff records and files, co-ordinating all activities to ensure efficient research governance and reporting. It is essential that the post holder can exercise initiative suitable to the role and is fully supportive to other colleagues in the administrative team. The successful candidate will also be required to assist the nursing and midwifery staff in screening various clinics to identify potential participants and successfully recruit or follow up patients in observational trials.

SERVICE DELIVERY

  1. Provide a comprehensive secretarial/administrative service, organising and making arrangements, typing and distribution of documents and reports, recording information and filing, ensuring that all information and documentation is produced to expected standards of performance, and according to agreed timescales.

  1. Proactively manage diary commitments by liaising with others, internally and externally, ensuring that all the required preparation is accurate and available, and that the senior management team/others are briefed on any difficulties, problems or issues.

  1. Build and maintain constructive relationships with others, within and across Divisions and externally to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of research services to patients.
