Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Senior Cance Services Pharmacist in Aseptics, Oncology, Haematology and Parenteral Nutrition to join our lovely pharmacy team here at Leighton Hospital.

Main duties of the job

To work within the Clinical Pharmacy Team within the Aseptics department and provide a dedicated, safe and effective, patient focused oncology and haematology clinical service to MCHFT patients. To provide a high quality, safe and effective clinical pharmacy and medicines management services to patients requiring PN. To assist in developing standards and systems for safe and effective prescribing, administration, aseptic manufacture and dispensing within MCHFT.

Candidates will have

1 year pre-registration training and experience in a hospital setting

Post-graduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy (completed or commenced on appointment)

Ability to maintain high levels of concentration and ensure high personal professional standards of practice regardless of pressures and distractions

Good IT skills including word processing, spreadsheet and bespoke pharmaceutical applications

About us

The role will encompass:

  • Clinically screening oncology and haematology prescriptions.
  • Clinically screening PN and other aseptically manufactured products
  • Working within guidance and policy to ensure safe manufacture of aseptic products
  • Final checking and releasing of aseptically manufactured products.
  • Working with the senior pharmacists to ensure national and local standard are achieved.
  • Review and monitor patients in response to changes in patients condition, results of tests, adverse drug reactions, response to treatment and each patients individual requirements.
  • Therapeutic drug monitoring for specific drugs.
  • Comprehensive and individually tailored patient education and counselling regarding their treatment.
  • Provision of advice to medical, nursing, pharmacy and other members of staff as appropriate regarding oncology, haematology and PN pharmaceutical issues including: advice on treatment, dose, suitable dosage form, contraindications, interactions, side effects, administration, manufacture, monitoring and interpretation of test results. May involve research or investigation and complex calculations.
  • Encouraging implementation of local and national guidelines, including local limited formulary and NICE guidance.
  • Reporting of adverse drug reactions and interactions.
  • Participating in oncology/haematology clinics
  • Participate in the provision of a clinical ward-based service
  • Working with the MCHFT Multidisciplinary Team.

The successful candidate will be able to use their skills and knowledge to strive to deliver a high-quality clinical pharmacy service. This post will be ideal for a pharmacist who is motivated by direct patient care, service improvement, wants to work collaboratively and who wants to make a positive impact on patient care.

This post also includes weekend working, bank holiday working when needed. This can be discussed at interview.
