Job summary

The successful candidates will join a team of 12 Consultants within the department, who currently provide services for urogynaecology, subfertility, gynaecological oncology and fetomaternal medicine. We are a dynamic, adaptable group who are willing to alter job plans to accommodate the successful candidate. An interest in fetal medicine is essential for this post.

The post is designed to support both the obstetric and gynaecology services provided by the department.

The post is a replacement post and will incorporate both an obstetric and a gynaecological commitment. On call duties will be to partake in the non-resident Consultant on a 1 in 11 basis. The candidates will also participate in the "Consultant of the Week rota" providing labour ward cover.

The post is offered on a full time, or job share basis, the job plan being intended for a full time appointment with an opportunity to modify this if the post is offered on any other basis.

The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practice. The applicants must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be based at Leighton Hospital in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, which is part of the Women's and Children's Division. The department also hosts out-patient clinics at Victoria Infirmary, Northwich.

The post is offered at 10 PA but under the terms of the 2003 Consultant Contract, candidates who wish to conduct private practice would be required to offer an additional programmed activity.

The posts will include non-resident standard Consultant on call shared with 11 colleagues. Labour Ward Consultant presence and emergency gynaecology is provided by a 'Consultant of the Week' system (1:12).

There are provisions available for joint consultant gynaecology theatre lists in order to maintain competencies and progress skills.

The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.

We employ almost 5,000 members of staff, provide around 540 hospital beds, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children's health.

The Trust is also part of Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP), a unique local health partnership that provides a range of community services for people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Trust was recognised nationally for its 'Be Safe Be EquiPPEd' campaign, which aimed to make the Trust as safe as possible for staff and patients, through supporting the correct use of PPE.

The results in the 2020 national NHS Staff Survey showed improvements in all elements of the safety culture theme, with 92% of respondents feeling their role made a difference to our patients. We were also recognised nationally for our workforce health and wellbeing initiatives.

At Mid Cheshire, we value our staff and appreciate that in order to give our patients the best quality, compassionate care, we also need to look after our colleagues.
