Job summary
You probably didn't know there was a library in the middle of the hospital and there are few people out there that have heard of health librarianship as a career.
So why would you want to take on an apprenticeship in a health library?
- We help staff and patients find the information to help them make decisions about their health. The work impacts on patient care. Here are some examples.
- We support improving services by identifying good practices from other places. Can you imagine how technology is going to change healthcare?
- We work with staff from all departments, at all levels. It will give you a broad understanding of the hospital and NHS.
- We are part of a large network of services across England. You will get to learn from other services and access training opportunities outside of the Trust and help support regional and national work.

- The career path has lots of varied skills, which transferable into other roles.
- We don't just deal with books; in fact we could run the service without them. Occasionally we lend people and run randomised coffee trials.

Main duties of the job
As a Business Administrator Apprentice, you may work independently or as part of a team and will develop, implement, maintain, and improve the library services. You will provide excellent customer service and build effective working relationships, all of which is great experience, and helps to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the department.
You will be expected to maintaining high standards of professionalism and to work in line with the Trust's values and behaviours.
You will be curious, motivated and enthusiastic. Other qualities include being punctual, reliable, adaptable, and proactive.
You will be employed on afixed term contract, 37.5 hours per week.Most of our previous apprentices have chosen to stay with the Trust and moved into permanent roles following their apprenticeship.
You must meet the apprenticeship eligibility criteria
- Be 16 years or older
- Must have been a UK resident for the last 3 years
- Must not have already completed this Apprenticeship or hold a level 4 or above qualification in the subject

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond.
The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.
