The aseptic service is a growing and progressive team that makes personalised medicines in a specialised clean room environment.We are just opening a new Aseptic Unit within the hospital which provides an excellent challenge for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

The Assistant Technical Officer, Aseptic Services, will be:

  • Provide a specialist cleaning service to the aseptic services unit and work within national guidance to maintain GMP standards of cleanliness.
  • To transfer products and equipment into the clean areas using aseptic technique.
  • Maintain written and electronic records of monitoring data.

To have or work to achieve NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy services.

Job description

Job responsibilities

SERVICE DELIVERY

  1. Transfer products and equipment into a clean room environment using
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
  • Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP);
  • Rules and Guidance for Pharmaceutical manufacturers (Orange guide);
  1. Prepare and maintain documentation using computerised and manual systems including:
  • Quality control data (including microbiological results)

  1. Responsible for maintaining the work areas in accordance with SOPs and GMP
  2. To work to a consistently high standard to ensure the quality of the product is guaranteed and the clean room environment is not compromised.
  3. To process orders from internal and external customers ensuring products are not compromised during their transport, and any shortages are processed correctly and efficiently.
  4. To maintain stock control systems including:
  • Ensuring adequate stocks are maintained
  • Receiving new stocks, checking for conformity
  • Stock rotation
  • Weekly stock checks
  • Maintaining correct and safe storage conditions.
  1. Deliver aseptic products to wards and departments in a sensitive and professional manner. Unpack returned items these may contain syringes and sharps, ensuring safe disposal of all returns following SOPs.
  2. To process routine telephone, fax and e-mail enquiries in a professional manner, directing more complex enquiries to appropriate staff when necessary.
  3. To assist in the training of fellow ATOs new to the department.

  1. Participate in induction and refresher training where appropriate maintaining aseptic skills accreditation and passing a three monthly broth transfer test.
  2. Participate in the introduction of new techniques, using new technology in accordance with the needs of the service.
  3. To provide and receive technical information from hospital staff, patients and members of the public in a sensitive and professional manner, ensuring confidentiality at all times and referring to a senior member of staff when necessary.
  4. To complete housekeeping duties including:
  • Weekly plate/swab
  • Assembly of plates and samples of Quality Control
  • Processing consumables
  • Specialized cleaning of sterile and non sterile areas of unit and isolators and equipment.

  1. To maintain a high standard of service to patients, wards, departments, clinics and external customers, and at all times act in their interest providing the best possible pharmaceutical care. To treat those who seek the pharmacy aseptic service with courtesy, respect and confidentiality.
