Job summary
This is an exciting new 12-month post offering a unique opportunity to support safety improvements across our Trust whilst maintaining and developing clinical skills and competencies within general medicine and medical subspecialties.
The successful candidate will split their time equally between the safety and clinical roles. The safety role will involve working with the Associate Medical Director for Patient Safety to lead specific safety projects as determined by National and Trust priorities. In addition, the successful candidate will be supported to undertake specific safety training including the National Patient Safety Syllabus level 1 and 2 training.
The clinical component of the role will be based within the Division of Medicine and Emergency care, supporting inpatient work within general medicine and/or medical subspecialties depending upon candidate preference and experience. We anticipate that this role will be at the ST1-2 level.
We are looking for the candidate to be able to commence from September 2023.

The post will give excellent exposure to General Internal Medicine with opportunities to work in the Acute Admissions Unit, Care of the Elderly, Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology or Diabetes & Endocrinology at a IMT1 level. Placement will depend on the appointee's aspirations, clinical need in the Medicine and Emergency Care Division and also on placement of medical students. There will be opportunities to rotate into two or three departments over the year if that is considered appropriate.
The nature of work will vary but will mostly comprise working on the ward alongside the medical team of trainee doctors under the clinical supervision of a Consultant.
