Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Support Manager to join our Urgent and Emergency Care team at Leighton Hospital. This is offered as a full-time substantive post and the successful candidate will be work within the Urgent and Emergency Care management team.
The role will be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive reception and administrative service to support the ED department and clinical teams. The successful candidate will also support the Assistant Service Manager in the management of key performance related targets whilst ensuring appropriate staffing levels/cross cover within the reception and administrative teams.
Applicants should be highly motivated and solution focused. Good communication and organisational skills are essential, as well as being a team player. This is an ideal role for an enthusiastic and intuitive individual who feels ready to progress in their managerial career and would enjoy a challenging role.
The ideal candidate will also have a background of managing staff in areas such as annual leave, sickness management and other HR issues. However, training and ongoing support will be given upon commencement in post for all areas of the job description.
Main duties of the job
Plan, organise and monitor the administrative services of the sub-division by working on own initiative to monitor the workload and flow of activity; ensuring the smooth running of the administrative service by prioritising the workload of junior members of staff, work flows and implementation of new initiatives, with conjunction with the senior team.
Maintain the efficiency of the service by ensuring that plans are in place for adequate administrative cover including arrangements for planned and unplanned absence, and that comprehensive, up to date procedure manuals are in place to ensure that a consistent standard of service is maintained.
Support systems and processes to ensure services are effectively implemented and evaluated according to agreed policies, procedures and guidelines.
Monitor, proactively manage and escalate, with the support of the service manager(s), where appropriate issues regarding performance against relevant NHS standards and patient expectations.
To support and maintain systems and processes to ensure that the administration service is comprehensively assessed, appropriately planned, effectively implemented and evaluated according to agreed policies, procedures and guidelines.
To assist with the control of expenditure, ensuring it remains within budget for all administrative areas.
