Applications are invited for a Consultant with a responsibility to Adult Critical Care and an associated specialty at Mid Cheshire Hospital Foundation Trust (MCHFT).
The successful candidate will join the existing team of Critical Care Consultants who work closely together and act as a very supportive group with a determined ethos.
This exciting opportunity will also allow the successful candidate to widen their interest in a subspecialty area, alongside dedicated teams of clinicians who are focused on improving outcomes and patient experience.
The successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe and work between the Critical Care Unit and the associated specialty area.
The post is offered on a full time, or job share basis, the job plan being intended for a full-time appointment with an opportunity to modify this if the post is offered on any other basis.
The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise.
The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training in Intensive Care Medicine (ICM), or a second specialty with a strong interest and experience in ICM.
Main duties of the job
The job plan will consist of 8 PAs of Direct Clinical Care including on-call commitment and 2 PAs of Supporting Professional Activity per week.
It is envisaged that there will be a split on average of clinical duties into 6 PAs in Critical Care and 2 PAs in the associated specialty. However, there is some flexibility in this to accommodate specific clinical interests of the successful candidate.
The post holder will provide a consultant-based service to the department of critical care and their chosen subspecialty area.
The appointee will be responsible for providing comprehensive clinical management for critically ill patients in the critical care unit, and for patients in their chosen subspecialty area.
The expectation of the role is that the appointed candidate will offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective within Critical Care, and within the associated subspecialty area.

On call responsibilities will be undertaken within Critical Care only as part of the programmed activities, and the on-call commitment is a 1:8 weekend cover and a 1:8 weekday cover.
The post involves hot week work within the Critical Care Unit on 1:8 basis, which is split into a 3 day (08:00-18:00) and a 2.5-day responsibility over the 8-week rota cycle, plus attendance at the weekly MDT meeting, where we have strong links with radiology, microbiology, and the respiratory medical team as well as the wider allied health professional team
Daytime cover is provided by 2 Consultants (1 x consultant 08:00-18:00 and 1 x consultant 08:00-13:00). The appointee will undertake Critical Care 2 (08:00-13:00) sessions within the job plan over the 8-week rota period.
The Consultant: patient ratio meets the required standard of 1:8 between 08:00 and 18:00.
