MCHFT wishes to appoint an enthusiastic individual to the above post. This is a fixed term post from 3rd August 2022 to 2nd August 2023. This is a LED ST1/2 level position appointed for service commitments - it is not a recognised training post. However, whilst this is not a training post supported by the Mersey Deanery there are many training opportunities and previous post holders have progressed into training posts or Registrar level positions.The post will be attached to the General Surgery team including Colorectal Surgery, Upper GI Surgery and General/Paediatric Surgery providing an excellent broad range of exposure to several specialties. The post participates in a rolling rota including an on-call service provision for General Surgery and Urology (out of normal office working hours).

The successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe in the General Surgery Department, Surgery and Cancer Division.

CLINICAL DUTIESThe post holder will undertake ward duties in General Surgery and will supervise F1s within their remit. The post includes assisting in elective theatre and training in basic surgical skills and appropriate operations under supervision.
The post will be involved in the emergency on-call rota for General Surgery and for shifts outside of office hours (0830 to 1700), the Urology emergency service is also covered.
Every day there is available a general surgery emergency operating list. There is considerable scope for training and supervision in emergency general surgery. There are opportunities for training in endoscopy. Other clinical training opportunities can be discussed and arranged depending on the individuals requirements.
EDUCATION AND TRAININGThe post holder will be required to undertake Continued Professional Development (CPD). The Trust supports the requirements for continuing education as laid down by the Royal College, and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. In addition the post holder will be required to attend mandatory and essential training in line with the Trust policy. There is also a purpose built and very active Post Graduate Medical Centre at Leighton Hospital. The Centre has a well-equipped lecture theatre with internet facilities and a library.
Regular weekly surgical department meetings are held including journal club and case presentations. In addition there are regular multidisciplinary team meetings for breast, colorectal and upper GI cancer, a weekly medical/surgical/radiology meeting and weekly vascular radiology and monthly duplex scan review meetings. There is a compulsory monthly departmental audit. All ST1/F2 and SpRs are expected to present audit topics on a planned and regular basis.
