Job summary

We are currently looking to recruit to HCA posts across our organisation with the successful candidates working in either our Medical, Surgical or Community areas.

Successful candidates will be appointed on a band 2 or band 3 dependent on qualifications and experience. There will be the opportunity to complete an in house training course to achieve the qualifications required for Band 3.

Main duties of the job

Job Summary: The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) is an integral member of the clinical team. They will assistand support nursing, medical, and allied health professionals in the delivery of highstandards of holistic, family-centred care to children and families. Clinical tasks undertaken by the post holder will be ratified by the Divisional Nursing team. The HCA and Ward Manager / Department Manager are jointly responsible for ensuringcompetency. Clinical tasks undertaken will vary according to the speciality, clinical area andpatient group.

Job responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities: Provide the highest standards of nursing care to children and their families. Work effectively as part of a team, and in collaboration with the wider healthcare teamsto deliver safe and compassionate care. Undertake delegated nursing and therapeutic care tasks to enhance patient care, inaccordance with infection prevention and health and safety policies and procedures andwithin the scope of the Healthcare Assistant remit. Once deemed competent, work without direct supervision, using knowledge andexperience to deliver safe, high-quality care. Under supervision, follow individual care treatment plans. Participate in assessment,escalating and reporting any changes immediately to the Registered Practitioner,Assistant Practitioner or Lead Clinician. Promote a safe and therapeutic environment. Prepare patients for, and assist with, clinical and non clinical procedures. Initiate and participate in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation procedures as required. Create and maintain relationships with patients, parent/carers, offering advice andsupport where necessary. Accompany patients to other areas of the hospital forspecialised treatment. Responsible for prioritising and managing own workload to support the clinical team. Assist with the orientation and education of new staff and students; ensure they areinstructed in the ward procedures and routines. Contribute to clear concise patient records and documentation adhering to nationalstandards and trust policies and procedures. Obtain consent prior to giving care/therapy in accordance with Trusts Consent Policy. Safely transfer/escort patients to other areas of the hospital, after appropriate delegationfrom the Registered Practitioner, Assitant Practitioner or Clinical Lead within the scopeof practice.
