THE DEPARTMENT

The purpose-built Hospital in the Park was completed in 2015.

The Department of Radiology is on the ground floor of the hospital. It currently has three Philips general DR rooms, one Philips C Arm fluoroscopy suite, an ultrasound suite with 4 Philips Ultrasound machines, a Philips 64 slice spiral C.T. scanner, a Philips 1.5T M.R. scanner, a Hologic bone densitometer, a Planmeca Cone Beam CT OPG, an EOS 2D/3D erect scanner and a Radionuclide Imaging Department with a Siemens SPECT CT.

On site, within the Theatre complex, there is a Philips 3T intraoperative MRI scanner, two Philips bi-plane suites one for Vascular Intervention and one for Cardiac work. A Siemens Zeego Hybrid Theatre is also in the theatre complex primarily for spinal work but also for combined complex IR/Surgical cases. A portable ultrasound is exclusively available for IR use.

Cover is also provided for imaging at the neonatal unit at Liverpool Women's Hospital (LWH).

Patient Archiving and Communication System installed and active since June 2007. Our PACS provider is Carestream, and we are part of a North West Cluster of 13 hospitals that share a Global worklist. This runs in conjunction with CRIS radiology reporting system with voice activated dictation (Dragon).

There are 14 reporting workstations, including 3 in the registrars room. There are a number of shared offices for the Consultant Radiologists and a seminar room with conference facilities. All consultants have been provided with a home working Kit.

The department has an excellent and close working relationship with the surrounding adult centres, particularly with the Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery, the Liverpool Foundation Trust (incorporating the Royal Liverpool Hospitals, Aintree Hospital) and the Liverpool Heart and Chest hospital. This allows seamless transitional care, collaborative working and a collegiate approach to patient care throughout the Mersey region and the wider North West of England.

The radiology department is widely considered to be one of the friendliest and supportive environments to work in in the region and regularly scores top in trainee assessments. The department has an excellent mix of youth and experience and is frequently represented in National and International meetings.
