Job summary

This post is for full-time (10 PA) substantive Congenital Cardiology Consultant, based at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust with a specialist interest in cardiac cross-sectional imaging.

There is currently expansion of the Heart Unit at Alder Hey and increasing collaboration with the team at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital to deliver robust and high-quality care to children and young people with cardiac disease across the North West, North Wales and Isle of Man CHD network serving approximately 7.5 million population. are undertaken both at the Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust (Level 1 centre) and the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Level 2 centre), with considerable co-operation existing between the Trusts. These working arrangements have now been formalised through a managed Clinical Network.

The successful applicant joins a team of 10 Consultant Paediatric Cardiologists and 4 Congenital Cardiac Surgeons. The candidate would become part of a 1 in 10 general paediatric cardiology on-call rota. The appointee will join team of consultants who together with colleagues in Manchester provide tertiary Paediatric Cardiology and ACHD services for the North West, North Wales and Isle of Man CHD network (approx. 8.2 million population).

Main duties of the job

It is envisaged that this post will attract 10 programmed activities per week. The job will include a weekly cardiac cross-sectional imaging list (run jointly with radiology), an advanced echocardiography list monthly and a monthly all day outreach clinic.

At Alder Hey a 'Consultant of the Week' rota is in operation, where one consultant is responsible for all daytime acute referrals and inpatient care during that week (1 in 10 weekday; 1 in 10 weekend). A separate on-call rota is provided for interventional cardiology (presently 1 in 3 basis). The post holder would be expected to participate in the on-call rota and would therefore be in receipt of the 3% on-call supplement.
