Main duties of the job
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
The post-holder will have duties in paediatric rheumatology alongside the existing multidisciplinary team. This will include 2.4 rheumatology clinics per week, including general rheumatology clinics (including a video clinic intermittently), complex multisystem disease clinic as well as rotational responsibilities for a new patient clinic, ambulatory clinic, inpatient and day ward service and patient reviews of children / young people involved in clinical trials. The post holder will contribute to the weekly service rota for rheumatology on a pro rata basis with the existing consultants. Based on an 8PA new consultant post, this equates to 8-9 service weeks per year (on call ratio of 1 in 4.7). There is a formal out of hours commitment to this post, which entails a pro-rata 24/7 telephone cover for consultant specialist Rheumatology advice, paid for as a on call supplement, with formal review as part of an annual job plan review. The post holder will report through the Clinical Specialty Lead for Rheumatology to the clinical director for medical specialties to the Chief Executive with professional support from the Medical Director.

- 6 DCC / 1.5 SPA / 0.5 research PA - subject to change within annual job plan reviews).
- On call commitment: Calculated pro-rata, typically 8-9 service weeks per year (on call ratio of 1 in 4.7) for a 8PA post, associated with an on call pay supplement for . telephone specialist advice only for rheumatology.
- 6DCC include:
- Service weeks include ward rounds and reviews equating 3.65DCC a week
- Second on call days (9-5pm on site) 51 days / year based on current pro-rata calculation (one hour per day for 51 days as DCC)
- Clinics 2.4 x week for 42 weeks per year. This may include a commitment to outreach clinic up to once per month. At least once a week general clinic, (including a video clinic intermittently), complex multisystem disease clinic as well as rotational responsibilities for a new patient clinic, ambulatory clinic. 0.25DCC admin per clinic
- Other DCC time related to patient reviews on day ward, clinical admin, morning handover, rheum and radiology MDT, safe guarding/school/complex care meetings, responding to patient and family queries.
- General anesthetic list joint injections usually done by Physiotherapy ESP and injections under Entonox by Clinical Nurse Specialists, but consultant cover needed when ESP on leave. Option of new consultant undertaking more joint injections if wanted, with consideration of succession planning.
- SPA time as detailed above (1.5SPA)
