Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician - Pharmacy Apprentice

Job summary

This is an Apprenticeship role, and the post holder will be required to gain substantial new knowledge, skills, and behaviours (KSBs) as part of the Apprenticeship Standard and undertake a range of duties relevant to the role.

This is an excellent opportunity to begin a career as a Registered Pharmacy Technician. You will study for a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles & Practice for Pharmacy Technicians whilst you work, gaining knowledge and experience in various areas of pharmacy within the Trust.

We are looking for two candidates with vision, commitment and motivation to join our team of professionals.

Full training is provided including day release study which will be via virtual learning. You must be willing to follow an academic and practical apprenticeship course and commit up to 10 hours per week of your own time for private study.

Progression to year 2 is dependent on successful completion and proven commitment of the 1st year of the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles & Practice for Pharmacy Technicians. Please bring all original copies of certificates for qualifications declared in the application along with photographic ID.

Main duties of the job

1. Commit to all relevant training both in the workplace and at the designated college to enable achievement of BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the principles & practice for Pharmacy Technicians

2. To carry out the routine dispensing and issuing of prescriptions, including in-patients, outpatients and discharge prescriptions that have been clinically screened by a pharmacist in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures in the department.

3. To use the pharmacy computer system to dispense, issue, label and return medicines in accordance with level of training provided.

4. To assist in routine duties in the dispensary including maintenance of stock levels, checking expiry dates and ensuring overall tidiness of the department.

5. To assist in the maintenance of stock control of medicines identifying any discrepancies and bringing these to the attention of senior pharmacy staff.

6. To participate in the preparation of extemporaneous products demonstrating Good Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Practice and adhering to Health and Safety and COSHH requirements.

7. To communicate professionally with other healthcare professionals regarding queries of a straightforward nature.
