Job summary

To assist the Pharmacy Procurement and IT Systems Manager in the safe and cost effect procurement of medicines for the trust.

Answer queries of a complex technical nature in relation to drug availability and supply providing specialist advice to meet the needs of the patient / customer.

To support the pharmacy technical service relating to High-Cost Medicines-not reimbursed by national tariff, at Alder Hey in line with NHSE and CCG commissioning intentions, local policy and procedures to ensure safe, evidence based and cost- effective use.

To support the development, manipulation and analysis of reports and databases relating to medicines procurement and usage to ensure efficient response to commissioner, finance, and pharmacy information requirements.

About us

We have a new, exciting opportunity for an experienced GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician to take up a full time position of Senior Pharmacy Technician - Procurement and Medicines Optimisation . You will join our committed and friendly team to support the delivery of a high quality paediatric medicines procurement service to our patients.

As one of Europe's biggest and busiest children's hospitals, at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, we treat everything from common illnesses to highly complex and specialist conditions. In addition to our main hospital site, we offer paediatric services at a number of community sites and hold local clinics across Merseyside, Cumbria, Shropshire, Wales and the Isle of Man. We also provide specialist inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs in our recently relocated and newly opened state of the art facility.

Qualifications

Essential

  • oNVQ Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills and BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
  • oRegistered with the GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council)

Desirable

  • oBTEC Accredited Checking Technician Qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive previous experience and knowledge of working in a hospital pharmacy environment.
  • Demonstrated experience of maintaining stock control systems
  • Collaborative working with members of multidisciplinary team

Desirable

  • Experience of paediatric pharmacy
  • Previous experience of purchasing in pharmacy
  • Previous experience of completing department projects and audits
  • Experience of producing medicines expenditure and cost-saving reports
  • Experience of undertaking product risk assessments
