Communication

• Develop and maintain effective communication with staff undertaking education programmes which shows a sensitivity to their individual circumstances.

• Articulate and interpret information for staff ensuring understanding.

• Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across NWNODN dealing with complex situations and working towards a resolution.

• Create an environment that encourages and maintains effective communication systems between the Trusts and the NWNODN.

Analytical Skills

• Ensure appropriate systems are in place to maintain accurate records.

• Assist in the development and evaluation of teaching programmes.

• Demonstrate an awareness of cost implications associated with the programmes and ensure effective use of all resources.

• Demonstrate an overall awareness of quality issues and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.

• In collaboration with NWNODN Team and hospital-based manger and educators deal appropriately with capability or professional issues.

Planning and Organising Skills

• Utilise specialist neonatal knowledge and experience in the development and delivery of education across the north-west.

• Work within the neonatal service Providers to support the planning and delivery Education across NW.

• Organise room booking/virtual delivery tools for learning as appropriate.

Physical Skills

• Standard keyboard skills

• A high proportion of time will be office-based, using computer equipment.

• There will be a requirement to work to tight timescales and competing deadlines

• Deliver both formal and informal teaching sessions.

• Where appropriate co-ordinate clinical placements for learners and, where appropriate, provide support when on placement.

• Maintain responsibility for identification of own continuing educational needs and professional development and ensure that revalidation criteria are met.

• Participate positively in own annual Personal Development Review and ensure set objectives are met.

• Attend all mandatory training days as identified by the Trust or your seconding organisation.

• Keep up to date with current neonatal developments and practices, demonstrating a continuing process of attaining education and clinical competence.

Responsibility for Information Resources

• Report clinical and non-clinical incidents through the hospital reporting system.

• Complying with relevant legislation policies and procedures

• Ensure clear documentation of programmes of learning is maintained to a high standard.

• Conduct evaluation of education programmes providing analysis and recommendations.

• Identifies and investigates problems and queries relating to collated data/information, taking appropriate action.

Responsibility for Research and Development

• Demonstrate an awareness of the research process.

• Ensure an up-to-date knowledge of current evidence-based practice and implement research findings in teaching to ensure quality of service and effective practice.

• Contribute to the audit of the programme and to ensure quality is maintained and change managed effectively and efficiently.

Person Specification

Education and Training

Essential

• Registered Nurse/Midwife
• Neonatal Qualification in Speciality
• Mentorship qualification or equivalent

Desirable

• A recognised teaching qualification or equivalent level of experience

Experience

Essential

• Current evidence of mentoring within the clinical environment
• Experience of multidisciplinary neonatal education and training

Knowledge

Essential

• Extensive knowledge of specialist areas, acquired through post graduate nurse education or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master's level equivalent
