Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available in the Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC) Service at Alder Hey for a Band 6 IPC Specialist Practitioner.

The team is particularly interested in applications from individuals with IPC knowledge / experience, current IPC Champions or those who proactively manage or care for patients under isolation precautions and have a keen interest in IPC.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who have an inquisitive mind, are good problem solvers and can work with data and metrics effectively. A working knowledge of PSIRF and human factors would be an advantage as the post holder will be undertaking Post Infection Reviews.

Applicants must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and must be confident in their ability to address, educate and monitor IPC practices. The successful candidate should inspire others to deliver best practice and participate in service development and innovation.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The post holder will support the work of the IPC team and the Director of Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC).
  • The post holder will undertake a range of activities in relation to IPC, act as a resource and provide infection control advice, information and support to Trust staff, families and visitors under the direction and supervision of the IPC Nurse Specialist.
  • The post will be a highly visible presence on the wards, departments and community services, working on education programmes, training and development to positively affect the safety of patients, their families and staff in the organisation.
  • The post holder will undertake infection prevention audits and monitoring of IPC practice
  • The post holder will undertake regular support to clinical staff which will include being part of the review process when there is an issue with IPC practice and outbreak management as directed by the IPC Nurse Specialist and DIPC
  • The role will provide support to the HCID and fit testing programme when necessary
