Trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of the new Sefton Mental Health Support Team (MHST). We are excited to recruit another Team of trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioners to support the delivery of low intensity, evidence based early intervention to children and young people in schools. This is in line with the government's priority to increase access and availability of mental health and well-being support for children and young people.
You will need a proven academic record - minimum of Level 4 qualification and the ability to study successfully at Postgraduate level (demonstrable through presence of existing qualifications OR by successful completion of a written assignment prior to a confirmed job offer)
Main duties of the job
- Under supervision and with support, the main responsibilities of this role will be to develop knowledge and practice skills in:
- Delivering evidence-based interventions for children and young people,with mild to moderate mental health problems, in education settings.
- Helping children and young people within these settings who present with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist services.
- Supporting and facilitating staff in education settings to identify, and where appropriate, manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing.
- Working with and within educational environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services.
- To evidence development of those skills with associated knowledge acquisition to record and evidence progression towards an academic award and demonstrable practical ability.

Alder Hey MHST covers both Liverpool and Sefton and currently has links with around 200+ schools. Developing and building strong relationships with schools is a priority. The teams comprise of several multi-disciplinary teams including staff from varied backgrounds, including psychology, occupational therapy, social work, nursing and psychotherapy. This post will be funded at NHS T&Cs 2020 Band 4 scale, gaining credits towards either a degree or diploma level qualification (depending on level of previous academic study), plus guaranteed employment on completion of training, with a starting salary projected to be based on the NHS T&Cs 2021 Band 5 scale.
To enable this, all applicants must demonstrate in their application the ability to work at degree level or have an equivalent level of relevant experience, with a proven record of previous learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health. Further to that experience of working with children and young people and an understanding of the educational system in England is highly desirable.All applicants must confirm they have a minimum of level 2 literacy and numeracy qualification
For part of this role there will be a requirement to travel to Prestwich, to the Psychological Therapies Training Centre (PTTC), part of Greater Manchester Mental Health Foundation Trust and affiliated with the University of Manchester for the teaching element of the training. The training programme for this post is 12 months in duration
Please note that as this role is intended to rapidly increase the numbers of trained staff available to support children and young people, Wellbeing Practitioners for Children and Young People (CYPWPs) are not currently permitted to apply for this training programme.
Successful candidates will be employed full-time and based in Sefton Mental Health Support Team, which will be responsible for the delivery of mental health support across a range of educational settings in the region.
During training, the post-holder will work under supervision to gain experience across healthcare and educational settings to enable them to gain the level of competence required to deliver high-quality, evidence-based early interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health problems.
On successful completion of training, EMHPs will be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to work as a qualified EMHP as autonomous and responsible practitioners within their scope of practice, alongside education colleagues.
