Job summary

The movement analysis service at Alder Hey has an opportunity for an enthusiastic Biomechanist to join our multi-disciplinary team. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of one of the busiest clinical gait labs in the country.

The North West Movement Analysis Centre (NWMAC) is a vibrant department at the centre of the Orthopaedic Department at Alder Hey. It has strong research and teaching links with Liverpool John Moores University.

The post is a full time and permanent (37.5 hours) working alongside clinical scientists, physiotherapists, and orthopedic surgeons.

Clinical duties include the assessment, data acquisition, data processing and data analysis of children and adults referred to the Movement Analysis Centre, Alder Hey, with gait disorders due to conditions such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, neuromuscular disorders and trauma.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary Movement Analysis Centre team in providing an efficient and up-to-date gait analysis service.
  • To work in conjunction with clinical scientists in the day-to-day running of the Movement Analysis Centre, including calibration, operation and maintenance, ensuring proper acquisition, analysis and verification of electromyography, force plate and motion data.
  • To assist the N.W.M.A.C. team in ensuring that gait analysis equipment is correctly configured for the appropriate data collection sessions and that processed data is of suitable quality and quality assured.
  • To assist in performing patient tests.
  • To assist the N.W.M.A.C. team in processing and managing patient data, including regular backups.
  • To set a high personal standard of work, keeping abreast of advances in knowledge and practice within the field of motion analysis.
  • To act in a manner which supports equality and diversity with reference to Trust policies and principles.

About us

The post holder will be based within the Gait Lab at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. The Gait Lab team as their own Gait Laboratory and work closely with other specialties such as Orthopaedics.
