Job summary

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is one of Europe's largest and busiest children's hospitals, providing care for over 200,000 children each year. In addition to the hospital site, we are present at more than 40 community outreach sites.

We have an exciting upcoming opportunity on Ward 4B. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Band 5 with an interest and enthusiasm for developing their leadership skills and contributing to the evolving ward environment on Ward 4B, to take up a Band 6 Nursing position on the ward. Both part and full time applicants will be considered in the application process.

Ward 4B has in total 24 paediatric beds, caring for children aged 0-18 years with a variety of Neurological and Respiratory conditions, such as Epilepsy, Long Term ventilation, Sleep studies, Head injuries, Complex Care and Neuro Rehabilitation. It currently consists of 2 Sleep Study cubicles, 2 Video Telemetry cubicles, a Long Term Ventilation Nursing pod, Acute Neurology Nursing pod, Rehabilitation Pod and 4 bedded Nursing bay. We have a close working relationship with the multi-disciplinary team and follow a number of care pathways to facilitate a positive patient experience.

Main duties of the job

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES / COMPETENCIES

  • Undertake a comprehensive assessment of care needs and develop, implement and evaluate centered programs of care in the ward and/or clinical environment. Develop clinical expertise in all aspects of care within the identified area of work.
  • Ensures that all planned care is evidence based/best practice.
  • Monitor and develop standards of nursing care within the Clinical Governance Framework.
  • Ensure the Trust policies and procedures are understood and adhered to, providing guidelines for junior staff whenever necessary.
  • Demonstrates professional accountability underpinned by the rules of the NMC, ensuring that these are applied consistently.
  • Provides effective communication to ensure a cohesive team approach to family centered areas.
  • Provide all grades of staff with the opportunity to generate new ideas for the improvement of the services provided.
  • Continuously develop clinical role in order to ensure that effective care is delivered within the specialised areas of work as determined by the profile of the ward.

RESEARCH

Promote evidence practice by:-

  • Disseminating relevant research findings to staff.
  • Encouraging and acting as a resource person for staff who are interested in undertaking research projects.
  • Advising and assisting with writing evidence based nursing standards, procedures and policies.
