Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional clinician with proven and significant clinical experience to be Consultant Therapeutic Practitioner for the new Gender Service for the North of England. The Children and Young People's Gender Service is a Phase 1 Provider of Gender Services provided in partnership by Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

As a Consultant Practitioner in the service you will provide highly specialist assessments, therapeutic interventions, advice and consultancy to children and young people, families. As a senior clinician, the postholder will provide clinical leadership to the service, including ensuring there is effective provision of supervision, good clinical governance and to ensure service delivery is based on professional standards and best practice guidelines.

Successful candidates will have a passion for delivering safe, high quality and effective services to children and young people and a commitment to staff development, and will be a strong communicator, well organised with the ability to work well under pressures in accordance with the needs of the service.

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care to over 275,000 children and young people each year. Alder Hey has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients' homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

  • Qualified in core profession as per BABCP criteria BABCP | British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies > Accreditation > Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist Accreditation > Core Professions > Core Professions list and criteria
  • Further psychological therapy qualification at Masters level or above
  • Current registration with appropriate regulatory body (e.g., HCPC, NMC, BABCP, UKCP).
  • Additional training beyond entry-level qualification in a specialised area of psychological practice (e.g., in an area of clinical practice relevant to the service CBT, DBT, Specialist assessment) through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses and/or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice
  • Completed training course in clinical supervision
