Roald Dahl Children's Epilepsy Transition Nurse Specialist Band 7
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced epilepsy nurse to join the Land of Remarkable People at Alder Hey and work within the existing epilepsy nursing team. The post holder will join the epilepsy specialist nursing team to lead on the delivery of a high quality specialised transition pathway for the child or young person with epilepsy.
30 years ago Alder Hey was the first children's centre within England to appoint an epilepsy specialist nurse in conjunction with Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity (RDMCC).
RDMCC have continued to support epilepsy nursing and now thanks to generous funding from the Mersey Region Epilepsy Association (MREA) they are able to support a Children's Epilepsy Transition Nurse Specialist post
Main duties of the job
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop a dedicated epilepsy transition nurse role to complement and work within the existing epilepsy nursing team. The successful candidate will develop the specialist practitioner function to deliver highly specialist care to the child or young person who has a confirmed diagnosis of epilepsy, taking the lead for those children and young people on the Transition pathway and caseload. He/she will work collaboratively and co-operatively with clinical colleagues to support both epilepsy and transition services, and thus enhance the quality of care delivered.

The Alder Hey epilepsy service is at the forefront of epilepsy management for children in the UK. It is one of the English national centres for the Children's Epilepsy Surgery Service and also offers a ketogenic diet service. Alder Hey is an internationally recognised centre for children's research.

The Roald Dahl Children's Epilepsy Transition Nurse Specialist will be required to :
- Work autonomously to support the management of the Transition caseload of patients whilst working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Develop local policies, protocols and procedures in accordance with local and national standards in relation to specialist area of expertise particularly Transition
- Lead the Preparation for Transition nursing clinic
- Enable the child or young person and carers choice and involvement in decisions about Transition care
- Co-ordinate patient care Transition pathway and liaises across organisational boundaries
- Plan specialised programmes of transition care and provides specialised age-appropriate advice to the child or young person, relatives and carers contents
- Provide clinical advice in accordance with current evidence-based practice
- Participate in nurse/consultant-led clinics and multidisciplinary team meetings
- Participate in case conferences/MDTs in relation to future management or transition arrangements
- Ensure the child or young person and their families are given appropriate verbal and written information regarding planned transition
- Fulfil a non-medical prescribing role
- Support the epilepsy nurse team leader and manages team in his/her absence
- During the period of funding from RDMCC, submit regular reports on the reporting template provided by RDMCC at , together with case stories and photographs in order to monitor the effectiveness of the grant. The reports will draw on qualitative and quantitative data collected as part of appropriate quality assurance frameworks.
